<p> Year 10 Summer Work Case Study: Lyme Regis</p><p>In this case study you need to:  Explain why Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coastline are experiencing high rates of erosion.  Describe how erosion many threaten people and the environment in the area.  Explain why people may have conflicting views about protecting the area.  Describe the costs and benefits of coastal management in the area. </p><p>The following key questions will help you to structure your case study: </p><p>1. Describe the location of Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast. Find a map of the area. 2. Explain why Lyme Regis is under threat (fetch, geology, landslides) 3. What is the threat of erosion to people in the area? (impact on housing, businesses, jobs especially related to tourism, facilities in the area) 4. What has been done to protect Lyme Regis. Find diagrams, pictures and maps of the main ways in which Lyme Regis has been or is going to be protected. You need to include:  Replenishment of the beach  Steel pins driven into the cliff.  Use of Rip-rap to protect the area. 5. Why do people have conflicting views about what should be done in the area in relation to coastal management? Think about the views of tourist, local residents, local businesses, Dorset council and environmentalists.
