The Patriot Verses The Giants

The Patriot Verses the Giants

(1 Samuel 17: 49-51 KJV)

And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

I thank God that He’s allowed us to follow the footsteps of some of the greatest Patriots of the bible. In researching the word Patriot - Webster declares it’s meaning as - one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests. Our country as Patriots’ of God for the inquisitive minds amongst us is far beyond the horizon of this cosmological creation.

In researching the word Giant in the Lexicon it refers to giants as – one who has splendor because of his ability to stand over others in statue and is a person who has extraordinary powers to destroy.

We stand as children of God and declare that yes there are giants in the land. And these giants without a doubt will be knocked down. We as Patriots must understand: If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31). God's on our side. It isn't a debatable issue. We have God working on our behalf at all times. And that means everyone else, as the kids would say, is going DOWN!

When we get all wrapped up in troubles and feel like people are coming at us from every side, we need to remember that God is for us. He's cheering us on. But not only is he involved in our lives, he has the power to change things - something nobody else possesses. God specializes in the impossible even when we have become impractical; and He gets rid of those which think they are indispensable.

When you are in doubt, danger, and dilemma; God can make a difference in your critical circumstances. If you happen to fall down just remember; don’t fall on your face so that your enemies can trample over you. If anything you remember; fall upon your knees and tell God all about it!

I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-36).

In our lesson before us today the Philistine army had gathered for war against Israel. The two armies faced each other, camped for battle on opposite sides of a steep valley. A Philistine giant measuring over nine feet tall and wearing full armor came out each day for forty days, mocking and challenging the Israelites to fight. His name was Goliath. Saul, the King of Israel, and the whole army were terrified of Goliath.

One day God sent a Patriot named David, the youngest son of Jesse; by divine intervention to the battle lines by his father’s request to bring back news of his brother’s outcome of the war. David was a young teenager at the time. While there he heard Goliath shouting and singing “It’s going down”, this was Goliaths’ daily defiance and he saw the great fear stirred within the men of Israel. David responded, "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of God?"

1 | P a g e The Patriot Verses The Giants

Let’s take a snapshot and exegesis of who this Goliath (enemy) really was according to scripture:

2 | P a g e
