All staff are selected through a rigorous process and all have one thing in common: they care about the success of students and seek to provide the highest levels of support and customer service to them.</p><p>MISSION STATEMENT</p><p>We will inspire the people of the local, national and international communities we serve to achieve success by providing:</p><p> The best possible opportunities for learning and skills development A creative and exciting partnership with our staff A welcoming, safe, inclusive and supportive environment</p><p>STUDENT MARKETS</p><p>Bridgwater College serves the following markets:</p><p> School Leavers – More than 85% of young people progress onto Bridgwater College post 16 for full-time education and training or apprenticeship programmes from the four mainstream feeder schools in Bridgwater. The College recruits students from more than 80 schools from across Somerset and beyond. In 2012/13 more than 4,000 16-18 year old students attended the College, with more than 3,000 on full-time programmes. A further 700 14-16 year old students follow part time and in some cases, full time programmes at College. We also recruit some 1000 apprentices through our own Apprenticeship Programme.</p><p> Adults and Community Education – Some 12,500 adult students follow programmes at the College. These include students studying a wide range of courses on either a full or part-time basis from Entry and Skills for Life provision through to Professional and Post Graduate programmes. Higher Education – The College offers a range of degree level provision, including Foundation Degree and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, funded through HEFCE or in partnership with the other universities including Bournemouth University, Plymouth University, Oxford Brookes University, University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), University of Bath and University of the West of England (UWE). About 650 students study HE level courses each year on Bridgwater College programmes.</p><p> Employers – The College works with a wide range of organisations in the private and public sector to provide training for staff, often customised for individual organisations and often held on their premises. The College has gained an excellent reputation for its responsiveness to employers and currently delivers in-company training to over 2000 employers across the region each year. </p><p>More recently it has established strong partnerships with key companies and organisations in the Engineering and Construction sectors which will be involved in the proposed build of two new nuclear power stations at nearby Hinkley Point, and the College is working closely with EDF and other partners on the skills strategy to support the project. EDF has recently invested significantly in the development of bespoke facilities at the College to meet the growing need for Nuclear and Engineering as well as Civil Engineering and Construction related skills.</p><p>BRIDGWATER COLLEGE TRUST</p><p>The Bridgwater College Trust, through which the College sponsors three academies within Bridgwater, saw its first year of operation. </p><p>The Bridgwater College Academy was formed through the conversion of East Bridgwater School, Sedgemoor Manor Junior School and Sedgemoor Manor Infants School, and was successfully launched in September 2012 for 3–16 year olds. </p><p>September 2013 saw the addition to the Trust of two further academies: the Hamp Academy for 7–11 year olds and the Brymore Academy for 11–16 year old boys.</p><p>QUALITY</p><p>The College has gained a reputation for high quality teaching and learning in well maintained, modern facilities. This has been endorsed by the College’s 2006/07 Ofsted Inspection Report, which has designated the College as ‘Outstanding’ with ‘outstanding’ grades achieved in all five areas of the inspection.</p><p>The basis of the College’s quality system is a well-established process of review at all stages in the learning process and planning cycle. Students, parents, employers and staff are all encouraged to play an active role in the review process, and their views help to formulate the College’s plans for improvement. Performance indicators demonstrate that the College’s learning is meeting the needs of students with success rates well above national benchmarks, average attendance of 92% for 16-18 full time and 87% for part time and pass rates in such qualifications as BTEC National and A levels in the high 90%s.</p><p>Whilst the administration of the College’s quality systems is co-ordinated by the Head of Staff and Quality Services, who also acts as Centre Co-ordinator with Awarding Bodies, all staff across the College participate in quality improvement.</p><p>STUDENT SUPPORT</p><p>The College places considerable store by its Student Support services. Student Support is managed on a cross-college basis from Student Services. The College takes every opportunity to celebrate student success through Awards and Presentation evenings, and through a termly programme of valued added celebratory lunches.</p><p>COLLEGE FINANCES</p><p>The College’s financial position is a healthy one. The College’s budget is c£40 million, of which some 28% is generated from commercial and non-funded activity. It is a key strategy for the College to continue to seek diversification of income, whilst at the same time ensuring that Government funding is managed as efficiently and effectively as possible.</p><p>WORKFORCE</p><p>The total workforce consists of more than 1200 staff. If you think you meet the above criteria, we would be delighted to hear from you.</p><p>LAND-BASED, SPORTS AND SERVICES</p><p>The area of Land-Based, Sports and Services (LBSAS) covers a wide ranging and comprehensive curriculum which reflects the diversity within the landbased and sports sectors.</p><p>The curriculum is currently divided into three sections, each led by a Section Leader who is a member of the Area Management Team (AMT). The 8 strong AMT consists of the Area Head, 3 Section Leaders, Operations Manager, Senior Tutor, Commercial Manager and Area Head’s Personal Assistant.</p><p>Teaching staff work in course teams, with a Programme Manager responsible for leading the curriculum delivery in each team, overseen by the Section Leader. Staff can teach across 2 or 3 teams. We currently have permanent full-time and part-time teaching staff, supported by Learning Support Coordinators who work closely with students, in addition to Associate Lecturers. </p><p>The Sections are:</p><p>- Animal Care, Equine and Agriculture - Horticulture, Arboriculture and Countryside Management - Sports and Services</p><p>The Area has grown rapidly since the merger of the land-based Cannington College with Bridgwater College in 2004. It has subsequently benefited from multi million pound investments in its resources which provide a real life working environment to support a continuously evolving curriculum.</p><p>The Area currently caters for over 900 full time and over 1000 part time students, in addition to 200 HE students in partnership with both Bournemouth and Plymouth Universities and the awarding body Edexcel. Our Commercial team also co-ordinates the delivery of a wide range of bespoke training programmes to meet local and regional industry need. A further 150 students currently study work based learning and apprenticeship programmes.</p><p>Over 130 students live on site at Cannington during term time, in a range of different accommodation types and arrangements, with resources ranging from a common room and sports hall to an equine centre and 9 hole golf course. Sports and Services</p><p>This section includes Sports and Public & Emergency Services. Courses offered include BTEC Extended Diplomas, BTEC First Diplomas and Awards, BTEC Level 1 Diploma courses, Diploma programmes in Coaching Football in the Community, CYQ programmes in Instructing Exercise Level 2 and Level 3 Apprenticeships in Leisure Operations and Activity Leadership and Higher Education courses with a two year HNC/D Sports & Exercise Science programme and a Foundation Degree in Public Services with Outdoor Education that has a one year Honours ‘top up’ at Plymouth University.</p><p>16-18 and Adult training programmes delivered in partnership with Bristol City Community Trust, Yeovil Town Football Club Trust and Somerset County Cricket Club are also part of the Sections curriculum delivery, along with part time adult fitness training programmes within our local communities.</p><p>In addition the section provides an expansive range of cross-college competive sport and enrichment options via TEAM BC and TEAM BC ACTIVE performance and participation programmes. The Section is only one of fifteen National Football Focus Centres in the country and was awarded this accolade by the Football Association and the British Colleges Sports Association, for its work in developing students Leading, Volunteering and Officiating skills in football within the community and is a five time National Award winner for the projects that have been developed and has this year received an AoC National Beacon Award nomination for Sport in the curriculum.</p><p>Football Association coach education and management courses in partnership with Somerset FA and MLTE and Lifeguarding courses in partnership with a private training provider also form a large part of the Section’s curriculum portfolio and cater for over 800 part time students each year.</p><p>The section has a large and well equipped Sports Hall, Artificial Turf Pitch, a Health & Fitness Suite and a Fitness Testing Studio as well as grass pitches on both the Bridgwater and Cannington sites and an 18 tee Golf course.</p><p>Leadership, volunteering and engaging the whole student body in sport and physical activity is at the core of our philosophy and Sports Leaders UK have recently awarded the section their National Leadership Academy Status for the outstanding delivery of their programmes.</p><p>THE ROLE</p><p>You will be responsible for taking a leading role in the delivery of the curriculum, managing and developing one or more Public Services programmes, and sharing in the teaching of the section/programme(s). Your role will be to provide a quality learning experience for all students using a wide range of teaching and assessment methods. </p><p>The College’s Sports and Services section is outstandingly successful. It prides itself on its emphasis on constantly improving and developing teaching techniques and strategies. You would be working in an environment where you will be encouraged to devote time to innovative teaching approaches which will stimulate the learners. MAJOR TASKS</p><p>1 CURRICULUM SUPPORT</p><p>Within your curriculum delivery role, you may be responsible for the following key tasks, according to the needs of your programme(s):</p><p>1.1 Deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment across Uniformed Public Services disciplines at FE and HE level.</p><p>1.2 Prepare Schemes of Work, Lesson and Assessment Plans to meet the requirements of Bridgwater College’s quality assurance and the regulations of Awarding Bodies.</p><p>1.3 Set and mark examinations/assignments, as appropriate.</p><p>1.4 Organise course team meetings regularly, keeping managers and teams informed of your learners’ progress and other Curriculum/College issues.</p><p>1.5 Provide subject support to learners.</p><p>1.6 Participate in learner recruitment and induction.</p><p>1.7 Participate and provide support in organising residential, day visit and outreach work associated with your programme.</p><p>1.8 Supervise learners’ conduct and comply with Health and Safety procedures, ensuring the welfare of the learners under your care.</p><p>1.9 Maintain records of work and progress, including subject/course files.</p><p>1.10 Complete course and learner administration associated with your teaching responsibilities eg learner references, reports etc.</p><p>1.11 Participate in internal staff appraisal and appropriate staff development.</p><p>1.12 Undertake cover for absent colleagues, in accordance with the College’s Cover Policy.</p><p>1.13 Attend and participate in the organisation of appropriate College events, eg Open Days.</p><p>1.14 Undertake a Personal Tutor role to carry out regular checks of enrolment and learning agreement information.</p><p>1.15 Track learner progress, as appropriate.</p><p>1.16 Ensure learners’ learning experience is varied, enjoyable and achieves primary and additional learning goals.</p><p>1.17 Maintain effective and professional relationships with parents, employers and external agencies.</p><p>1.18 Manage and develop associated on-site resources. 2 CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT</p><p>For the courses and/or programmes under your management, you may be responsible for the following key tasks, according to the needs of your Area:</p><p>2.1 Co-ordinate the activity of your teaching team(s), organising communications and team meetings, to ensure that all members participate in curriculum planning and development.</p><p>2.2 Ensure targets are realistically set and monitored with your Section Leader.</p><p>2.3 Arrange, co-ordinate and evaluate the Learner Induction process.</p><p>2.4 Ensure examination, assessment and internal verification planning is effective and relevant.</p><p>2.5 Ensure the College tutorial curriculum is carried out to meet and facilitate learner needs, as appropriate.</p><p>2.6 Ensure course review procedures are implemented, to improve the learning experience for existing and future cohorts of learners.</p><p>2.7 Work directly with Awarding Bodies in order to provide a quality programme for their students studying at Bridgwater College.</p><p>3 ADDITIONAL TASKS</p><p>3.1 To support and promote equality & diversity at Bridgwater College to ensure equality of opportunity for all students, visitors and staff and the elimination of discriminatory practices.</p><p>3.2 To maintain and promote a healthy and safe environment at Bridgwater College to ensure students, visitors and staff are safe from harm.</p><p>3.3 To support and promote the safeguarding agenda at Bridgwater College to ensure students, visitors and staff are safeguarded.</p><p>PERSONAL PROFILE</p><p>The success of Bridgwater College rests on a very strongly felt and shared set of values which determine its strategic direction. Expertise in hockey and rugby have experience of managing groups with a range of challenges in their learning are able to act as a personal tutor have a sense of humour have good team working skills hold or be prepared to undertake a first aid at work qualification have a clean driving licence and own transport, including D1 category (Minibus) or willing to obtain appropriate training to drive a mini bus BRIDGWATER COLLEGE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS PROGRAMME MANAGER/LECTURER </p><p>Conditions of Service</p><p>Full details of conditions of employment will be set out in a Statement of Main Terms and Conditions of Employment, which will be issued to the successful candidate on appointment.</p><p>Fitness for Employment</p><p>The successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-employment medical questionnaire which may result in a check by the Occupational Health Physician. Satisfactory clearance with police records will also be necessary (please see Disclosure Procedure).</p><p>Remuneration</p><p>The salary is £25,971 - £35,232 per annum. Salary is paid on the last working day of each month comprising salary for the whole month.</p><p>Working Hours</p><p>The successful candidate will be expected to be on duty for 37 hours per week of which 22 will be teaching hours and may be required to work up to 2 evenings per week within normal timetabled weekly contact hours. The working year normally consists of 215 days of which 200 are on site, the difference being set-aside for your personal development. Of the 200 days on site, 180 days will be teaching, with the remaining 20 days being available for administration and staff and curriculum development.</p><p>Working Hours - 37 hours a week directed time. Directed time means that with the agreement of the Head of Area, this need not all be on site.</p><p>Teaching Hours - 22 timetabled hours (792 per year) :</p><p>Staff to be available 2 hours a week for cover with a maximum of 18 hours per year of "teaching cover".</p><p>Flexibility</p><p>As a condition of employment, the postholder may be required to undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required, in addition to the major tasks outlined above.</p><p>Interview Expenses</p><p>The College will be prepared to pay a contribution towards travelling costs and out-of-pocket expenses of candidates invited for interview. It is the College’s policy not to reimburse candidates who are offered a position and who do not accept it.</p><p>Unfortunately, we will not be able to pay for the cost of travel to the UK but would be able to pay a contribution towards the cost of travel from a UK airport to the College and return to the airport (subject to terms and reasonableness).
