Concealing/Revealing #3

Concealing/Revealing #3

CONCEALING/REVEALING #3

Problem: Assign colors to the design developed for Concealing/Revealing #1. Use flat, gradated, and transparent shapes as necessary to create a series of distinctively different designs. Complete at least four studies, including: 1. A design dominated by low-intensity colors 2. A design dominated by dark-value colors 3. A design dominated by cool colors 4. A design dominated by warm colors

Objectives: To increase compositional complexity using color and to experiment with advancing and receding colors

Materials: Photocopies on card stock, paints, and illustration board. This assignment can also be done digitally.

Strategy: This final variation on concealing and revealing gives you an opportunity to build on all of your previous work with color and composition. By using a combination of solid, transparent, and gradated shapes, you can produce a wide range of variations. Try to change the visual dynamics in the design through the colors chosen.

Reading: Pages 2-10 to 2-16

Instructor’s Notes: This assignment can be treated as a direct extension of the earlier versions of Concealing/Revealing. • Superimposing two designs • Developing a composition entirely based on words • Working with representational shapes.

Timetable: 3 to 4 hours if done digitally; 9 to 12 hours if done manually
