<p>Fish Auction Questionnaire</p><p>Honolulu Fish Auction Pier 38, 1131 N. Nimitz, 536-2148; 5:45 am sharp</p><p>Where does Hawaii get its fresh fish and how does it get to market? Come find out as we visit the Honolulu Fish Auction and observe organized chaos. Fish are brought in from our fishing fleets, displayed to the buyers, auctioned, and brought to restaurants and grocery stores.</p><p>Questions (please type responses and turn in next week): 1. Who regulates the Fisheries in Hawaii? 2. What is the main fishing method in Hawaii? Please describe it. 3. If 3000 hooks are set, approximately what percentage are caught in a 24 hour cycle? How many fish does that equate to? 4. How much fish on average daily is brought in to Hawaii? 5. Were do the fleets go to catch fish? How long do they typically stay out to sea? How far off the coast do they have to go? 6. Can foreign fishing fleets catch fish in our waters? 7. What is the primary and secondary target fish species for Hawaiian fisheries? 8. What is bycatch (incidental catch) and how do fisheries reduce bycatch? 9. What is the average price of tuna sold at auction and at market? 10. Do we have a shark fishery? 11. Describe which fisheries use observers and the percentage in those fisheries. 12. Are fish observers paid by the fishermen or by the government? 13. Are lobster fisheries still closed? Will any Hawaiian fisheries be closed in the future? 14.
