We Are Finishing a Fun Unit in Math About Financial Literacy! Your Child Has Learned About

<p>Dear Parents, We are finishing a fun unit in math about Financial Literacy! Your child has learned about jobs, how money is spent, banks and profit. At the end of this unit, we have an Economics Fair. Your child will be asked to bring in products to sell or to provide a service for the Economics Fair. These items may be bought, or they can be things that your child has made themselves. Food is NOT permitted. Ideas for goods may be handmade jewelry, rubber band balls, paper clip necklaces, pencils, etc. Some examples of services include hand massages, nail painting, or a desk organizing service. Let your imagination run wild! Please do not spend a lot of money on this project. Items will need to be brought on May 19 th. Students will be given some class time on May 17th and May 18th to complete their projects; however it is strongly advised that students do not wait until the in class times to start their projects. During the Economics Fair, half of the 4th grade will be consumers and half will be producers. Then, they will switch so the other half will be consumers and producers. The producers should anticipate approximately 70 consumers. (They do not need 70 items to sell.) The students should price their items in increments of $1.00 between a dollar and 10 dollars. (1.00 Or $10.00). Students will be earning play money in class to spend at the Economics Fair. Their income will come from good behavior, turning in homework, helping others, etc. They may not borrow money from other students and they must keep up with their own money in class. Money will not be replaced if lost. Fines may be given for inappropriate behavior. Please talk to your child and help them decide what they would like to sell at the fair. Please send in a blank, full sized poster board and have your child complete the attached questionnaire. Both of these items must be brought to school by Tuesday, May 16th .Using the questionnaire, students will create an advertisement at school to display on their desk during the Economics Fair, which will be on Friday, May 19th.
