<p> Name: ______</p><p>DTEC 105 Lab #13 Axle Lab This lab’s objective is to teach students about axles. We will be looking at wheel bearing end play, gear lash, and overall design of rears/axles. There will be three stations:  Station #1: Students will remove the Ottawa’s axles and use a dial indicator to find wheel bearing end play. Students will also look at rolling torque.  Station #2: Students will disassemble the red rear on the stand. Students will measure the shims in each side of the rear and find the gear lash.  Station #3: Students will look at power flow/air flow through the two speed rear and decide if it’s a two speed rear or locking rear. Students will use Eaton Service Manual: AXSM-0041.</p><p>Questions: (all questions should be answered from the materials listed above or from your textbook.)</p><p>1. Find the part numbers of the two speed rear and the Ottawa’s rear. 2. Describe, explain, and give an example of a semi-floating, and a full floating rear. 3. Explain what type of gears are commonly used in rears and why? 4. Find the gear ratio for all the rears. 5. Explain the Differences between Hypoid and Amboid and where they could be utilized. 6. Describe the procedure to oil the wheel bearings. 7. Describe power flow and airflow through the two speed rear. a. Describe the engaged power flow/airflow b.
