<p>When I Grow Up…</p><p>GRADE K LESSON 4</p><p>Time Required: 20 -30 Minutes</p><p>Content Standards: (7.2.1Standard 4): Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions. </p><p>Indicators: </p><p> b. Students will learn about the variety of traditional and nontraditional occupations. </p><p> c. Students will develop an awareness of personal abilities, skills, interests, and motivations.</p><p>GOAL: Students will explore various careers and be able to discuss the training requirements and academic attainable levels for each </p><p>Activity Statements: Students will be introduced to various careers and what training and academic requirements are needed by reviewing and discussing several jobs and doing the Career Matching Game. </p><p>Materials: 1 Handout #1Career Matching Game for each student 2. Chalk board or Dry Erase Board 3. Instructor’s Resource #1 3. Handout #2 When I Grow Up for each student 4. Crayons</p><p>Overview: SAY: Today we are going to discuss different jobs, or careers (another name for a job). While we are discussing different careers, we will talk about how much money different jobs, or When I Grow Up…</p><p>GRADE K LESSON 4</p><p> careers pay and about the training and education needed for these careers. Then we will play a matching game and finish with a picture of you when you grow up. </p><p>Procedures and Discussion: 1. Instructor asks the students to brainstorm different jobs or careers and write these on the board. Ask what kind of training and/or education they think this person needs? (The instructor may need to explain college, vocational training, etc.) 2. After several careers are listed, begin to ask which career may pay more than others. Based on their guesses, look for a connection between the jobs with higher academic/training requirements than those that do not require college/training. (Keep this simple due to the age level) 3. Ask students what jobs they would like to have when they get older, what jobs do their parents have? 4. Briefly review the previous lesson topics and tie together regarding needs/wants, academics and lifestyle choices (typically, the higher the training/college, the more a person can get what they need and want, for example) and how their parents have been able to provide their needs but not all of their wants. Activities: 5. Give each student a copy of the Career Matching Game and ask them to draw a line from the career/job to the picture that matches best. Discuss briefly with the class what each job/career requires (Handout #1). 6.
