<p>MEMO</p><p>TO: All Juvenile Supervision and Case Management Staff FR: The Evidence-Based Practices Policy Team RE: Prerequisites & expectations for Youth Level of Service 2.0 (YLS 2.0) Trainers</p><p>The YLS/CMI 2.0 Train-the-Trainer (T4T) certification course is designed to provide participants with the skills, ability and confidence to train and coach agency staff in the administering and scoring of the YLS/CMI 2.0 risk assessment tool.</p><p>It is strongly recommended that individuals who participate in the YLS/CMI 2.0 T4T course have the following characteristics:</p><p> Interest or experience in speaking to groups and training staff.  Understanding of the 8 principles of Evidence Based Practices and how they relate to correctional practice.  Strong ability to provide feedback and coaching in a constructive manner.  Supervisory and agency approval for ongoing participation.</p><p>Requirements for Trainer Certification</p><p>Foundation Skills 16 hours On-line Initial Training 6.5 hours Training for Trainers 24 hours Apprentice Training 16 hours TOTAL TIME COMMITMENT 62.5 hours</p><p> Prior completion of the full YLS/CMI or YLS 2.0 conversion course (verification required) and demonstrated proficiency in assessment scoring. </p><p> Preference given to those who have completed Motivational Interviewing Level I & II.</p><p> Complete Foundation Skills for Trainers (2 days) conducted by MN DOC or equivalent trainer skills course and provide verification of prior completion. This will be offered December 1-2, 2015; register through ELM (https://forums.doc.state.mn.us/site/eut/SitePages/Home.aspx).</p><p> Complete Phase I on- line YLS/CMI training prior to the classroom training (also available through ELM at above site).</p><p> Complete the YLS/CMI 2.0 Training for Trainers (3 days). This is scheduled for January 26-28, 2016, at the MN DOC office, 1450 Energy Park Drive, Suite 200, St. Paul, MN, 55108.</p><p> Apprentice with Master Trainer conducting full YLS/CMI 2.0 Phase II (classroom) training sessions, or booster trainings. Apprenticeship allows new trainers to fine-tune their performance under the guidance of an experienced and supportive colleague. </p><p>1 of 4 ** Attending T4T training does not automatically guarantee you will receive successful certification. Training performance will be evaluated by Master Trainer(s) and feedback and coaching provided to participants during the apprenticeship. Our goal is to help you reach your potential as a trainer. Trainer certification will come with approval of the apprenticeship.</p><p>Expectations of a YLS/CMI 2.0 Trainer</p><p>In the spirit of collaboration, there will be a need for continued development of training curriculum; initial, and booster/refresher trainings; quality assurance; feedback; and coaching.
