Rowling Harry Potter and the Mohicans Goblet of Fire Step Two: Before you read your novel divide your novel into 3 sections equally. You will be required to write a reader response journal at the end of each section. Your reflection can focus on any of the following topics suggested below and must be typed, 1 page typed, double spaced, and conform to MLA formatting. </p><p>Topics to address in your reflection:</p><p>- An analysis of a major character - An analysis of an area of conflict - An analysis of a major setting - An analysis of a major conflict - An analysis of a major theme - An analysis of a mood/tone set in the novel - An analysis of literary techniques in the novel - An analysis of a major symbol - An analysis on the title of the book </p><p>Your reflection is not to take the form of a summary – if so you will not obtain any marks. Do not be overly descriptive in your writing be more persuasive and analytical.</p><p>Step Three: Creative Presentation</p><p>You will be required to create a formal oral presentation to the class that will last no longer than 10 min and no shorter than 7 min to the class presenting a major point of interest addressed in your novel. This portion will require you to make inferences about major characters, plot, conflicts, and the author’s stylistic techniques. Visual aids must be used and no reading off of cue cards is acceptable. You can use multi- media as a component in your presentation. Do not summarize your novel. </p><p>You will be required to hand in a hard copy typed of your presentation to the teacher along with your rubric prior to your presentation. The class must participate in your presentation; it will help to take the stress off of you speaking for the entire time. The more interactive and creative your presentation the more your audience will choose to participate!</p><p>Step Four: Essay</p><p>You will be required to write a formal essay on a topic of your choice taken from your novel. This essay will take the form of a five paragraph essay that analytically proves your thesis. Tips in determining a topic – you can focus on major themes, symbols, motifs, historical references, major characters, language, setting, plot structure, literary devices.</p><p>Your essay must be no shorter than 4.5 pages and no longer than 5 pages long. You must conform to MLA format, must be typed, double spaced and include a work cited page on the last page of your essay. All rough material must also be submitted with your essay.
