<p>I. Man of Steel was a terrible movie.</p><p>A. The film’s main characters did not behave in a realistic fashion.</p><p>B. The film consisted of either boring exposition or mindless action.</p><p>C. Superman’s character was completely misrepresented.</p><p>II. Man of Steel has many issues. The main problem is that the film’s mood is inconsistent, and it winds up not making any sense.</p><p>A. The film ruins the ‘suspension of disbelief’ by having the characters make strange decisions that make no sense.</p><p>1. Superman is told by his father not to save people, but that one day he will be the savior of humanity.</p><p>2. When a tornado threatens to kill his family, the father insists that he play the role of rescuer instead of Clark.</p><p>3. Although he is presented as a metaphor for Jesus, he endangers the lives of thousands of people through his reckless actions.</p><p>B. The characters’ speeches are pretentious, but don’t make sense, and action scenes often occur for no reason.</p><p>1. The father sometimes tells his son that he will be a hero, and at other times tells him to live a normal life.</p><p>2. The oil rig explosion, the tornado, and the destruction of Smallville are gratuitous action scenes.</p><p>C. In the comics, Superman is portrayed as someone who is a positive figure, and who always does his best to protect humanity.</p><p>1. The Superman in the film is moody and depressed.</p><p> a. How are we supposed to feel sorry for a handsome, indestructible, super-strong character?</p><p>2. In the final action sequence, Superman recklessly destroys half of Metropolis in a fight with Zod. He never makes a serious attempt to avoid collateral damage.</p><p>III. The film is a mess because it constantly changes its message, tone and tempo. Overall, it appears extremely disorganized.</p><p>A. Superman’s character is so disjointed that the audience can neither identify or root for him. B. The attempted messages of the film come off as hollow.</p>
