A RESOLUTION Recognizing the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville For

<p>UNOFFICIAL COPY AS OF 05/07/18 14 REG. SESS. 14 RS BR 2162</p><p>A RESOLUTION recognizing the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville for their outstanding basketball seasons upon the occasion of the most important game to date of the NCAA Tournament. WHEREAS, the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals men's basketball teams will meet on March 28, 2014, in Indianapolis, Indiana, for a berth in the Elite Eight of the 2014 NCAA Basketball Tournament; and WHEREAS, the University of Kentucky Wildcats, ably coached by John Calipari and entering the contest with a record of 26 wins and 10 losses, come into the game having won four of their last five games, including an epic defeat of the number one seed Wichita St. Shockers in the round of 32; and WHEREAS, the University of Louisville Cardinals, led by Naismith Hall of Fame inductee Rick Pitino, are looking to avenge an earlier loss to the University of Kentucky at Rupp Arena on December 28, 2013. The Cardinals, who have had yet another incredible season with 31 wins against only five defeats, are hoping to return to the Final Four for the third consecutive year and to repeat as national champions; and WHEREAS, the game, which will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, will be another match-up in the illustrious history between these two heavyweight college basketball programs. Two seasons ago, the University of Kentucky defeated the University of Louisville in the Final Four behind a superior performance by current NBA star Anthony Davis; UofL made amends when they ran to the championship last season behind the terrific play of Final Four Most Valuable Player Luke Hancock and All- American Russ Smith; and WHEREAS, this body commends these two historic programs for their unmatched traditions, thanks them for the rivalry that has brought joy to so many Kentuckians' lives, and grants best wishes to both teams as they prepare for what will undoubtedly be a hard- fought game. As it acknowledges the vast importance of this basketball game, this body also rightfully recognizes the undeniable fact that the true winner of this game will be the</p><p>Page 1 of 2 BR216200.100 - 2162 - 7419 Jacketed UNOFFICIAL COPY AS OF 05/07/18 14 REG. SESS. 14 RS BR 2162</p><p>Commonwealth; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:</p><p>Section 1. The Senate hereby acknowledges the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville for their basketball seasons so far and wishes them both the best of luck in the most important game to date of the NCAA Tournament.</p><p> Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville basketball teams.</p><p> Section 3.
