<p>SESSION LAW 2013-360 Section 8.35 SENATE BILL 402 Duties of School Counselors </p><p>Overview of NCDPI Work Group Purpose: to create an Implementation/Transition document that will go to the SBE in order to assist LEAs with implementing this new legislation. </p><p>Team Members: Representatives invited to be part of the work group are from:  Institutes of Higher Education  NC Community College System  LEA representatives from each State Board of Education Region (Regions 1-8)  School Counselors  School Counseling Supervisors  LEA HR Directors  Principals  Early College Programs  Charter Schools  Small and large LEAs  NCDPI Staff from Accountability, School Business & Finance, Career & Technical Education and Curriculum & Instruction Divisions</p><p>Deliverables: Implementation/transition document to assist LEAs with implementation of Section 8.35 of Session Law 2013-360 to include:  Matrix – Work Group will complete a matrix to assist LEAs in understanding the content of this new legislation as it relates to Section 8.35 “Duties of School Counselors” The matrix will outline the major components of the new legislation which include specific duties as listed: o Implement a comprehensive school counseling program o Spend 80% of their work time in direct services to students. Direct student services do not include test coordination.
