<p>SFJ CI105 Supervise investigations and investigators</p><p>Overview This unit is about supervising criminal investigations which fall within your area of responsibility and the investigators conducting them. These may be either volume and priority or serious and complex investigations. </p><p>To achieve this unit you must understand the process of investigation and the appropriate techniques and resources available to assist investigators in obtaining and documenting material. You must be capable of advising and guiding investigators in relation to investigative planning and decision making, providing feedback when appropriate. You must be able to understand and apply the legislation and policy to all investigations recognising the links to local and national policing objectives or priorities. You must quality assure all investigations in your area of responsibility to ensure they meet required standards.</p><p>There is one element 1 Supervise investigations and investigators</p><p>Target Group This unit is for those who supervise volume and priority and/or serious and complex investigations, but do not necessarily carry out the investigations themselves.</p><p>SFJ CI105 Supervise accordance with national crime recording standards P2 develop your understanding about the nature of the investigation and how it fits with the organisation's priorities P3 ensure that the investigation has been allocated appropriately, matching the skills and experience of the investigator to the complexity of the investigation P4 brief the investigator and other relevant people about the investigation, clarifying what is expected of them P5 ensure that investigators follow force policy in relation to risk assessment and management P6 ensure the investigator develops an investigation plan to effectively identify, prioritise and pursue all relevant lines of enquiry, making full use of available management information systems P7 ensure all the material gathered is recorded, retained and revealed in line with current legislation and policy P8 provide advice and guidance to the investigator where required to ensure that all lines of enquiry are dealt with appropriately P9 monitor and assess lines of enquiry within the investigation, identify problems and opportunities and ensure the investigator takes prompt and appropriate action P10 review performance and provide support, advice and feedback as required to help the investigator and other relevant personnel improve their performance and address any development needs P11 ensure all individuals are dealt with in an ethical manner, recognising their needs with respect to race, diversity and human rights P12 ensure the investigator fully documents all decisions, actions, options and rationale in accordance with current policy and legislation and briefs others to ensure continuity P13 ensure the investigator passes on relevant material promptly to the appropriate person or department P14 ensure case files are prepared and submitted and post-charge procedures completed in compliance with current legislation, policy and guidance P15 review the investigation, identifying and communicating lessons to be learned by yourself and other relevant people P16 ensure the investigation has been finalised in accordance with national crime recording standards</p><p>SFJ CI105
