Introduction (Scenario) As a creative business ABEC Media are keen to save money and produce their own web site graphics and as much of the advertising material as possible.</p><p>THE FORMAT OF THIS DOCUMENT HAS BEEN SET AND MUST NOT BE CHANGED IN ANY WAY</p><p>Approved by: PB Internally verified: Oct-10 No Criteria Tasks So far, you’ve outlined the function of computer hardware and operating systems, one final thing you need to do is outline the purpose of different software utilities and explain how these additional utilities are essential in order to improve the performance of a computer system.</p><p>Outline the purpose (P3) and benefits (D1) how can improve the performance of computer systems, of the following software utilities: 1 1. Security, eg. P3, D1 o Virus protection (what is it, why use it and how often?), firewalls; 2. Clean Up Tools, eg. o Cookie removal (what are they & how do you remove them?), internet history (what is it and how & why would you remove it?), defragmentation (what is it and how & why would you remove it?); 3. Drive formatting, what happens and when would you format a hard drive?</p><p>2 P4, M2 ABEC Media now know more about computers and would like to buy one but needs some help. The business has £2,000 to spend on all software, hardware and peripherals for their system to work and be secure. Re-read the Introduction (Scenario) at the start of this assignment brief to remind you of the full context.</p><p>You are required to research different options and produce a specification. Your choice of components should be briefly explained and may not make reference to all the following requirements: </p><p>1. Cost; 2. User requirements, eg. o Software to be used, network sharing, need for maintenance contract, outputs required, need for integration with other systems (eg. home entertainment) 3. Processing power 4. Storage capacity 5. Accessibility for disabled users 6. ICT competence of intended user 7. Training requirements ABEC Media would like:</p><p> i) A high specification Windows 7 computer with at least 1Tb of hard disk space ii) Access to the internet iii) Word processing and spreadsheet software iv) Software for graphics work (eg. image organiser and graphics editing software) v) Printer capable of printing quality colour catalogue vi) Software and hardware that will allow staff to listen to music while they work vii) A means of backing up data viii) An on-site maintenance contract ix) Training in the use of spreadsheets (you need to identify a suitable training course or method/means of gaining the skills and knowledge)</p><p>For (P4) you need to clearly identify (by google URL website reference) each item i) to ix) that needs to be purchased together with its cost and a brief explanation how it will meet ABEC Media’s requirements – see above references to website graphics, catalogue for customers & advertising materials.</p><p>For (M2) you need to justify your research choice/s. You must also ensure you propose a second system, outlining and cross referencing how the differences in any alternative set up meets ABEC Media’s client needs.
