LEACH, SR. for Committee. 31 32</p><p>1 [916-1] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF 12 TRANSPORTATION NAME THE OVERPASS THAT 13 CROSSES SPANISH WELLS ROAD ALONG THE CROSS 14 ISLAND PARKWAY ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND THE 15 “AMBASSADOR JOHN C. WEST OVERPASS” AND TO 16 ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS 17 OVERPASS WHICH CONTAIN THE WORDS 18 “AMBASSADOR JOHN C. WEST OVERPASS”. 19 20 Whereas, the Honorable John C. West was born on August 27, 21 1922, in Camden, South Carolina; and 22 23 Whereas, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Citadel 24 in 1942 and graduated magna cum laude from the University of 25 South Carolina School of Law in 1948; and 26 27 Whereas, Governor West served this country as a Major in the 28 United States Army; and 29 30 Whereas, from 1954-1966 he served in the South Carolina Senate; 31 and 32 33 Whereas, from 1966-1970 he was the Lieutenant Governor of 34 South Carolina; and 35 36 Whereas, from 1971-1975 he served as Governor of South 37 Carolina; and 38 39 Whereas, in 1977 he was appointed United States Ambassador to 40 Saudi Arabia by former President Jimmy Carter; and 41</p><p>1 [916] 1 1 Whereas, the members of the General Assembly believe that is 2 fitting and proper to recognize this distinguished son of the 3 Palmetto State by naming the overpass that crosses Spanish Wells 4 Road along the Cross Island Parkway on Hilton Head Island in his 5 honor. Now, therefore, 6 7 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives 8 concurring: 9 10 That the members of the General Assembly request the 11 Department of Transportation name the overpass that crosses 12 Spanish Wells Road along the Cross Island Parkway on Hilton 13 Head Island the “Ambassador John C. West Overpass” and to erect 14 appropriate markers or signs at this overpass containing the words 15 “Ambassador John C.
