Collins PREREQUISITE: Audition/Interview CREDIT: 2 credits</p><p>OVERVIEW</p><p>This course enables the student to understand and appreciate music through the comprehensive development of performance skills, study of music theory and various other non performance activities.</p><p>GOALS OF THE MUSIC PROGRAM</p><p>The goals of all courses in the music program are as follows: . an understanding of music literacy as it relates to musical theory and composition . the ability to play or sing technical exercises and diverse repertoire in a performance setting, making artistic decisions with regards to stylistic accuracy . demonstrate an understanding of the elements of music as they relate to a variety of musical eras and styles</p><p>COURSE STRANDS</p><p>. Foundations</p><p>EVALUATION</p><p>Evaluation in this course will be diagnostic, formative and summative. 1) Summative Evaluation 70 % 2) Final Evaluation (10% theory exam, 20% performance exam) 30% 3) Diagnostic and Formative 00 % Your instructor can use their professional judgement to determine a final mark. Within the summative evaluation, students will be evaluated according to their achievement level in the following categories: Knowledge/Understanding/Thinking/Inquiry - Non-Performance (Creative Enrichment 13%, Theory 13%, Ear Training 4%) 30% Communication/Application - Performance 40% In addition, within these categories, complementary learning skills and work habits such as timely completion of homework and assignments, attendance and punctuality, collaborative work, private practice, small and large ensemble work will be assessed on an ongoing basis.</p><p>USE OF PERSONAL DIGITAL DEVICES</p><p>The personal device should always be put away and only used as instructed by the teacher for specific classroom use. This applies to the music classroom as well as the practice room.</p><p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION</p><p>Due to the busy and varied nature of activities at Cawthra Park, students are encouraged to negotiate due dates when necessary. This is an important communication skill. Daily attendance is essential in music, since it is difficult to demonstrate achievements if students are frequently absent from class. Plagiarism, including electronic theft and misrepresentation of original work, cheating, use of unauthorised aids and false representation of identity will result in appropriate consequences.
