<p> Anchorage Fire Department</p><p>For Immediate Release: Deputy Chief Tom Kempton July 30, 2004 343-2902/317-7233</p><p>CITY LIFTS BURN BAN Effective immediately, Fire Chief John Fullenwider has lifted the Burn Ban that has been in effect for the Municipality of Anchorage. This action has been taken in conjunction with area wildfire suppression and management agencies in response to the decreased danger of wildfires due to the increased fuel moisture, decreased temperatures, and more seasonal wet weather. </p><p>The lifting of this burn ban means that local residents may enjoy recreational and ceremonial use of fire and can burn beetle-killed spruce trees under certain conditions. </p><p>We urge citizens to call the Burn Hotline for recorded information at 267-5020. Burning of beetle-killed spruce trees is by permit only and may be suspended on a day- by-day basis, depending on the weather and air quality. </p><p>The woodlots are open for disposal of woody materials:</p><p> In Anchorage, 1 block North of the intersection of O’Malley and C street, Thursday through Sunday 10am-6pm.</p><p> In Eagle River at the Regional Landfill, Hiland Road, Friday and Saturday 10am- 5pm. </p><p>PLEASE CALL 267-5020 for more information </p><p>####</p>
