Your Team Is Assigned The Following Company To Research:

Your team is assigned the following company to research: Neogen Corporation Research by: Richard Caldwell

Research the company from these two perspectives: 1. Someone interested in the company and trying to understand how they hire MBAs. 2. Someone who has an interview arranged and wants to prepare for that interview.

Here are some tips:  You should spend no more than 60 minutes working on this assignment.  Use resources other than the Internet. In particular, what people can you talk to who already have compiled or know some of the information for which you are seeking?

Information to Locate - Answering the following questions will help you search for the proper information.

Corporate Overview  The Neogen Corporation has been a publicly held company since 1993.  The revenues of the Neogen Corporation have increase in 50 of the last 54 quarters as compared with the same quarter of the previous year.  The two major divisions are the Food Safety Division which markets test kits to detect food borne bacteria and the Animal Safety Division which markets a complete line of veterinarian supplies.  The Neogen Corporation is headquartered in East Lansing MI, with offices in Scotland, China, and Germany. Manufacturing of most of the products is taking place in a newly built facility in Lexington Kentucky. Corporate Strategy  Neogen appeared in the news for being named to Fortune’s Small Business list of the 100 fastest growing companies, and was recently added to the Russell index of micro cap stocks. In addition Neogen recently announced that sales of the last fiscal year were up 13% from the prior year.  The acquisition of smaller companies will likely give the Neogen Corporation greater access to international markets, and the rights to produce products with acquired technological advances.  In addition to building a larger manufacturing facility in Lexington, Neogen has recently acquired a Wisconsin Company, and is making overtures of acquiring a small company in California. This pattern of rapid growth and acquisitions implies the need for additional managers and personal. Neogen is currently recruiting for a number of positions related to their increase manufacturing capacity.  The Web site indicates that the goal of the company is to provide simple tests that can be preformed in the field. However, the company seems to be expanding in a way that indicates they may have interests in other biotechnology areas as well. Career  Neogen is relatively small company with approximately 250 employees. I could not find any information on typical career paths or information about rotational programs.  There are not currently any MSU MBA Alumni currently working at Neogen according to the alumni directory. However, there are three with undergraduate degrees from MSU working at Neogen, and Gordon Guyer, former President of MSU is currently on the Board of Directors.  It appears the foreign assignments are unlikely for employees not involved with the company’s sales.  Hiring Process  The Neogen website indicates that they are currently looking for Marketing interns, Product Managers, Production Managers, and Business Development Managers.  All resumes are to be sent to the Human resources Department in Lansing.  Although none of the positions require an MBA, Neogen does appear to place a great deal of value on industry experience.
