Dear Parents, August 19, 2015

Welcome to 5th grade! I am very excited to have your child this year. I hope that your summer was relaxing and fun. Summer always seems to fly by, and now it’s time for school to begin again. I am looking forward to helping each child grow academically, socially and spiritually.

This is my 7th year of teaching. Time flies when you love what you do! A little background information on myself; I was born and raised in Southern California. I played softball and tennis in high school. I attended Chaminade University of Honolulu on an academic and softball scholarship. While at CUH I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education. I taught in the Archdiocese of Honolulu for a few years in grades Kindergarten and 1st grade. I moved back to California after living several years in Hawaii. I absolutely loved Hawaii and hope to return someday (even if it’s just for a vacation). I am a huge fan of the Dodgers and have a vast knowledge of all things Elvis Presley, Yes Elvis .

My goal for this year is to challenge students to become a more independent and self sufficient individual, an even more committed Catholic and responsible citizen, an academically prepared student who takes responsibility of their own learning, and lastly a life-long learner who can succeed for years to come.

I look forward to seeing you all at Back-to-School night on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m. We will go over the syllabus and classroom expectations, projects, etc. on that day. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any immediate questions, or stop by before or after school. I also have a weebly class website. Please visit our 5th grade website at http://nalcala.weebly.com for more information.

Blessings,

Ms. Alcala
