<p> School Council Meeting Minutes</p><p>Date: December 6, 2012 Members present: Dr. Lori Thomas, Kelly Walker, Michael Forehand, Tanya Lingner, Kris Richardson, Shara Greer, Chrystal McLaughlin, Horace Stroud, and Shawn Loftin Members not present: Bill Fuhrey, Keith Davis, Angela Ellis, Chrystal McLaughlin, Beverly Rodgers</p><p>Minutes: Dr. Lori Thomas called the Flint Hill Elementary School Council meeting to order. Dr. Thomas informed the committee the status of the field which will be used for the sports program. The committee discussed the payment of background checks for volunteers and the transportation of students following practices and games. Horace Stroud suggested the school apply for the “Play 60 grant”, which is a grant launched by the NFL. http://school.fueluptoplay60.com/funds/funds_for_futp60.php Schools applying for the grant must do so by January 15, 2013. Dr. Thomas stated the three (3) sports which will be offered are: basketball, soccer, and kickball. Currently FHES students in grades 3rd-5th may participate in the following clubs: Drama, Art, Chorus, Chess, and Reading Bowl Team. Young Astronauts and Cross-Country Track teams will be added in the future, as will cheerleading and dance teams. Dr. Thomas suggested that meetings be held for the parents of students who will be participating in the teams to make them aware of the behavior and grade requirements. </p><p>Dr. Thomas reviewed the purpose, structure and role of the School Council: http://www.gsci.org/councils/2007%20School%20Councils%20Organization%20& %20Procedure.ppt</p><p>Michael Forehand discussed “The Way of the Wolf” which is a school-wide positive behavior program implemented this year at FHES. The goal of the program is to establish a predictable, consistent, and positive school environment for students and staff. The committee was informed of the reduction of disciplinary referrals since the implementation of Paw Mart. The “store” is located in FHES where students may redeem paw prints given to them by teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, and bus drivers. Committee members were invited to view the items offered at Paw Mart following the meeting. </p><p>Dr. Thomas, Kelly Walker, and Michael Forehand discussed grades 1st-5th Benchmark test results. Benchmark assessments are administered three times during the school year. Benchmark assessments function as a tool to identify gaps in students’ conceptual knowledge as related to the CRCT assessment.</p><p>Meeting adjourned at 9:45 Minutes submitted by secretary, Shawn Hooten-Loftin</p>
