For your specific junk set-out weekend please visit http://mapit.louisvilleky.gov/ and enter your address OR call the office at 574-1109. You may begin setting out your junk Friday afternoon of your junk set-out weekend and must have it all set out by Monday at 6:00 a.m. For collection guidelines please visit www.louisvilleky.gov/solidwaste. </p><p>From June 14-23, to correspond with Junk Pick Up dates, River Metals Recycling (RMR) is inviting 9th District Residents to receive higher rates for recycling scrap metal: an extra $10 per net ton f or sheet metal/appliances and 5 cents per pound extra for aluminum cans and copper. To partici pate, print the coupon attached to this email and bring your scrap metal to River Metals at 2045 R iver Road between June 14-23. Find your Junk Pick Up dates on the Louisville website. 2013 Ohio River Sweep on Saturday, June 15th Message from MSD The 24th annual Ohio River Sweep is set for Saturday, June 15, from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon. Since 1989, this award-winning cleanup for the Ohio River and its tributaries brings thousands of volunteers to the riverbanks to collect tons of trash and debris. River Sweep encompasses the entire length of the river, from its origin in Pittsburgh, PA to its end in Cairo, IL, including nearly 3,000 miles of shoreline and many tributaries. More than 15,000 volunteers will pick up trash and debris along 1,800 miles of riverbank. Six states and 72 counties are represented. </p><p>ORSANCO (The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission) is the regional coordinator for the event and the Metropolitan Sewer District is the local coordinator. If you have any questions please contact Planning & Design at 574-6230.</p><p>Honoring Jack Trawick of Center For Neighborhoods Jack Trawick, executive director of the Center For Neighborhoods, recently announced that he will be retiring after almost 33 years with the organization. On Thursday, June 6th, my colleagues on the Metro Council and I honored Jack Trawick for the tremendous contributions he has made to our community. Jack will retire on June 30, 2013 to focus on researching and writing his dissertation for the Ph.D. in Urban and Public Affairs at the University of Louisville. To celebrate Jack’s many contributions to our community we proclaimed June 6 “Jack Trawick Day.” Read the full proclamation here to learn more about Jack’s tenure with the Center For Neighborhoods. </p><p>21st Annual Taste of Frankfort Avenue The Clifton Center, located at 2117 Payne Street, will host the 21st Annual Taste of Frankfort Avenue, the organization's biggest fundraiser, on Sunday, June 23rd from 5:00pm-8:00pm. The event will feature food tastings from more than twenty of Frankfort Avenue's finest restaurants set up inside the historic building, as well as an outdoor tent housing a cash bar, a stage with live music, and a silent auction. Advanced tickets are on sale now for $50, and tickets will increase to $60 on the day of the event. Friends of the Clifton Center members receive an additional $5 discount on all tickets. Correction: Fees Associated with Some USTA Tennis Clinics My office received a call from USTA’s 10 and Under Tennis League to correct information received from another agency and published in the June 6th eNews: there is a fee associated with some of the tennis clinics; not all clinics are free. Below is the corrected information.</p><p>The United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) 10 and Under Tennis League is hosting clinics to introduce children to tennis throughout the summer at locations all over the city. This summer children 10 and under can have fun being active and learning a new skill: tennis! These 2 nights will include 4,000 guests for each game – Tuesday, June 25 and Tuesday, July 30. (Part 2 – Metro Council Mondays) The Bats will host groups and small numbers of people doing the good of the community that might not fit into the category above. This includes 12,000 total ticket vouchers (without hot dogs and drinks) distributed for use on ANY of these 5 designated nights: May 27, June 10, June 24, July 29, and August 26 (all Mondays). Young people will be inspired by the story of Louis Braille, who was only twelve years old when he began work on the writing system that changed the lives of blind people all over the world. They'll learn the basics of Louis's alphabet and practice writing on a braille slate and a braillewriter. Advanced students will learn more about braille contractions and whole word signs, as well as how to write music and do math with braille. Participants may attend one session, two sessions, or all three. Admission is free, but space is limited, so registration is required.
