<p> HMXP 102H—001, fall 2013 Human Experience: Who Am I? Kendall </p><p>Oral Presentation: Discussion Leader </p><p>DISCUSSION LEADERSHIP All students will lead a class discussion about one of our assigned readings. This will enhance your understanding of the materials and also allow you to practice your (Nike Board Room) presentation skills for the Final Oral Presentation. Each student will have one reading to cover. You may choose to present on the same day as another student. If this is the case, you will need to meet with that student prior to your presentations and connect/align your presentations. </p><p>You are expected to include the following: 1) Background about the author (You will need to conduct research) 2) An explanation of the author’s central thesis and most important points 3) An evaluation of evidence the author uses to support the thesis 4) Connections to our other readings 5) Questions you have prepared 6) Class discussion to be conducted in conjunction with Ms. Kendall </p><p>Do not provide a “book report.” Rather, use the essay as a tool for drilling deeper into the human experience. </p><p>Practice, practice, practice your presentation! </p><p>You may use visual aids if you choose (not a requirement). To do a good job, you will probably take 35-40 minutes (8-12 minutes for the presentation, then about 20-25 minutes for discussion. ) Please note: Time is NOT the focus of your presentation, you are to provide a thorough introduction to the author and essay. The discussion will happen naturally and the instructor (Ms. Kendall) will co-facilitate this with you. You should prepare 3-5 strong, DEEP questions for this portion of the class. </p><p>Some questions to consider when preparing your presentation: - What is the central thesis of the reading? Did the author have a clear thesis? - What evidence did the author provide to support his or her thesis? - Did the author achieve the intended purpose? - What specific lines in the text would you like the class to consider? - Do you agree with the author’s main argument or claim?
