<p> Irish National Committee of the International Peat Society</p><p>ANNOUNCEMENT</p><p>Seminar on mire, peatland, and peat research and activity on the island of Ireland</p><p>Great Southern Hotel, Dublin Airport Tuesday 10th October 2006 10.00 a.m. to 17.30 p.m.</p><p>Chairman: Dr John Feehan</p><p>The Irish Peat Society aims to bring together organisations (including Government bodies, academic institutions, NGOs and forest, peat and energy companies) and individuals with an interest in peatlands and peat. In association with its first A.G.M. the Society is holding a one-day seminar to bring together the latest available information on peat and peatland research and activity on the island of Ireland.</p><p>The Seminar will cover the following themes:</p><p>Theme Presenter</p><p>Peatland Conservation Caitríona Douglas Peat for Energy Pat Fitzgerald Peat in Horticulture: Munoo Prasad and Michael Maher The IPCC Lodge Bog Management Plan Catherine O’Connell Land Use on Cutaway Peatlands Tom Egan Peatland Restoration Catherine Farrell Peatlands and Climate Change David Wilson Peatland Archaeology Jane Whittaker The Wise Use Process Donal Clarke History of Peat Industry Donal Clarke Bogland Project Florence Renou Peat and peatland developments in Roy Tomlinson Northern Ireland Mapping Peatlands in Ireland John Connolly</p><p>There will also be presentations on Peatland Forestry and Cutaway Management which will not be included in the Proceedings</p><p>The precise titles for the above themes will be decided in consultation with the Presenters.</p><p>Irish Peat Society Committee: D. A charge of €25/£16.75 per person will be made to cover the cost of coffee breaks and lunch.
