<p> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO CONGRATULATE MEGAN GORDON FOR BEING 12 NAMED MISS SOUTH CAROLINA USA FOR 2017 AND FOR 13 PLACING IN THE TOP FIVE IN THE MISS USA PAGEANT 14 AND TO HONOR HER FOR HER EXCEPTIONAL POISE, 15 TALENT, AND BEAUTY. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 18 Representatives are pleased to learn that Megan Gordon was 19 crowned the 2017 Miss South Carolina USA in November 2016, 20 and that she placed in the Top Five at the Miss USA Pageant in 21 May 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada; and 22 23 Whereas, a native of North Augusta, she is the daughter of Lisa 24 Dukes and Wilbur Gordon, Jr., and a granddaughter of Deacon 25 John Collins, Sr., and the late Betty Collins and of Mr. and Mrs. 26 Wilbur Gordon, Sr., of Edgefield; and 27 28 Whereas, when Megan Gordon was only nine years old, she first 29 saw the Miss USA Pageant and knew then that she wanted to be 30 Miss South Carolina USA and to participate in the Miss USA 31 Pageant; and 32 33 Whereas, she began her pageant career at the age of fourteen and 34 has acquired numerous titles, including Miss Collegiate America 35 2014 and Miss Southeast. She also was first runnerup in 2015 in 36 the Miss South Carolina USA Pageant; and 37 38 Whereas, shortly after being crowned Miss South Carolina USA, 39 Ms. Gordon earned a degree from Armstrong State University in 40 Savannah, Georgia in nursing, specializing in pediatrics and 41 seeking to be an advocate for children with cancer and blood 42 disorders; and</p><p>[4372] 1 1 2 Whereas, she has volunteered with organizations that aid in 3 helping children and their families, such as SAFE Kids, Light the 4 Night, and the Ronald McDonald House. In 2012, she was named 5 Distinguished Young Woman of South Carolina; and 6 7 Whereas, Ms. Gordon has traveled to such countries as Canada and 8 India and visited picturesque and romantic cities, such as Venice 9 and Rome, but this last year, she has had the opportunity to visit 10 cities throughout her beautiful home State of South Carolina; and 11 12 Whereas, since November 2016, she has represented the Palmetto 13 State on the national stage with a message meant to empower 14 youth and to instill in them the confidence, care, and class needed 15 to rise to the next level in life; and 16 17 Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates 18 the respect and recognition that Megan Gordon has brought to this 19 State, and the members expect to hear of her continued 20 achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore, 21 22 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 23 24 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 25 by this resolution, congratulate Megan Gordon for being named 26 Miss South Carolina USA for 2017 and for placing in the Top Five 27 in the Miss USA Pageant and honor her for her exceptional poise, 28 talent, and beauty. 29 30 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 31 Megan Gordon. 32 XX 33</p><p>[4372] 2</p>
