Comment</p><p>Hatchmen I was working on a log boat a few years back hooking up on the wharf. When the crane nearly had full weight of logs the hatchman looking from the deck of ship noticed the safety lid was ajar and warned me. I quickly moved to the side when with full log weight the wire came out and smashed to the concrete wharf. To this day if I had not been warned I believe the wire would have seriously injured or killed me. 1 life saved. Does that justify a hatchman? To me it does...</p><p>Stevedoring Should the guidance material refer to the qualifications (Cert II, Cert III and qualifications Cert IV in Stevedoring) that have been developed for the stevedoring industry?</p><p> of course</p><p>Safety Induction Should the newly developed stevedoring ‘safety skill-set’ be used to skill-set underpin safety inductions?</p><p> of course</p><p>Use of checklists Should the safety checklists, which set out examples of the types of hazards, and acceptable/unacceptable ways of handling those hazards, be maintained in the guidance material?</p><p> safer the better for everyone</p><p>Comments on the implementation of the national guidance material in each jurisdiction which may have included launches, information and training sessions, and whether it has been useful in the workplace as a resource for improving safety practices. Comment</p><p>Other comments safety on the waterfront in Tasmania is definitely getting worse as more and more casual workers are employed and are under the pump to cut corners for fear of not getting picked up for work. This is real and it happens.</p>
