<p> CAPACIT-2010</p><p>CAPACIT-2010, the seventh International Seminar on Capacitors was organised on 21 and 22 January 2010 in concurrence with ELECRAMA- 2010. The theme of discussion was “Capacitors for Energy Efficiency & Beyond”.</p><p>Organising & Technical Committees</p><p>Mr Shylendra Kumar C M of ABB Limited, was the Chairman of the Organising Committee consisting of members Mr. J G Athalye (Subodhan Engineers (Pune) Pvt Ltd), Mr. Amiya Banerji (EPCOS India Pvt Ltd), Mr. Vinod M Bhatia (Powercap Capacitors Pvt Ltd), Mr. Vikas S Jagadale (Shreem Capacitors Pvt Ltd), Mr. R N Seth (Universal Cables Limited) and Mr. Murtaza Wajid (Meher Group).</p><p>The Technical Committee, headed by Mrs. Tabassum M Wajid (Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd) consisted of Mr. A V Bhagwat (Subodhan Engineers (Pune) Pvt Ltd, Mr. P K Bhandari (Universal Cables Limited), Mr. Sushil Bhatia (Powercap Capacitors Pvt Ltd), Mr. Pannalal Biswas (ABB Limited), Dr. H N Nagamani (Central Power Research Institute), Mr. L V Shah (CTR Manufacturing Industries Ltd) and Dr. R Venkatesh (EPCOS India Pvt Ltd).</p><p>Call for Papers</p><p>47 synopses were received out of which 25 full papers where selected for presentation. Selected papers consisted of 16 Indian and 9 foreign (Finland, Germany and France).</p><p>Inauguration Mr Shylendra Kumar, Chairman of the Organising Committee thanked the co- hosts and welcomed the 150 participants and assured that the 2-day Seminar would be beneficial.</p><p>The Chief Guest, Dr Pramod Deo, Chairman, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) addressed on the current scenario in the power sector. He touched upon the various aspects of using capacitors for energy efficiency.</p><p>Keynote Speaker Mr R K Verma, Chairman & Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (MPPTCL) addressed on generation capacity addition, bridging the gap between demand and supply, energy demand and awareness regarding importance of reactive compensation.</p><p>Mr. Murali Venkataraman, President, IEEMA elaborated on the competitiveness of Indian Industry with special reference to China and highlighted constraints such as MVR addition not being in sync with growth in MW.</p><p>The seminar was co-hosted by ABB Ltd, Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd, EPCOS India Pvt Ltd, Meher Advanced Materials, Powercap Capacitors Pvt Ltd, Quality Power Electrical Equipments Pvt Ltd, Arkema France, Shreem Capacitors Pvt Ltd, Subodhan Engineers (Pune) Pvt Ltd, Tervakoski Films Group Finland, Universal Cables Ltd and Vishay Electronic GmbH Germany.</p><p>Technical Sessions</p><p>25 technical papers were presented under 6 topics spread over 6 sessions. (See table)</p><p>Prizes The first prize of Rs. 50,000/- was won by Mr Somnath Chakraborty of ABB, India for his paper “FACTS – A Smart Grid Component Series Compensation Suggesting Principles for Future Safety Static VAR Compensation Adapted to the Developing Grid’ and two second prizes of each Rs. 25,000/- was won by Dr Jeremie Walker of Arkema, France for the paper “M / DBT Versus PXE in HV Impregnated Capacitors “ and by Dr Nagmani of CPRI, India for the paper “Experience of CPRI in Performance Evaluation of Power Capacitors of Unit Rating up to 1000 KVAR “.</p>
