Program </p><p>Nature This proposal will add Secondary Education to the current five-year of B.S./M.S programs offered by the Education Department. The application requirements are the same for existing five-year programs revision: and include: o The application is due 1 February of the junior year. o During the Fall and Spring semester of the senior year, successful applicants will take 6 graduate credits (2 courses) to contribute to both the B.S and M.S. degree. (Note: this corresponds with the current university policy that states that up to 12 graduate credits may be taken for this purpose.) o All students must take a comprehensive exam before the Master’s degree will be awarded. o All students must pass the appropriate Praxis tests for certification and have a 3.0 GPA.</p><p>Undergraduates majoring in an academic major that could lead to Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification would have an Rationale opportunity to major in Secondary Education in the fifth year at The for University and receive teacher certification and a master’s degree, given revision: successful completion of the program.</p><p>Will the revision have an impact on the core curriculum? □X No □Yes (indicate impact)</p><p>None</p><p>Will the revision have any impact on another department or program? □No □X Yes If yes, indicate below the impact and response of affected department or programs.</p><p>There will be a minimal impact on academic departments to advise undergraduate candidates to take courses in the undergraduate major that will meet Pennsylvania Department of Education standards. Departments, as a result of work completed in Teacher Education Committee (TEC) meetings, have already selected these courses. (See attached.) A list of these courses will be given to CAS Academic Advisors. In addition, each candidate will consult with an advisor in the CPS Advising Center who will assist students with PDE requirements and deadlines for application to the program. Secondary Education Program</p><p>Many of these majors already have advisement in place for students interested in pursuing secondary education certification and the list below only serves to make complete the competencies in each content area mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
