<p> Event Committee Overview</p><p>About the Richmond SPCA The Richmond SPCA is a non-profit organization that is tackling the problem of pet overpopulation through education, adoption, rehabilitation and spay/neuter. The organization saves the lives of 4,000 homeless animals each year and cares for approximately 350 cats and dogs daily. </p><p>Our decisions and programs will be guided by these shared values:  Excellence in all that we do,  Integrity by acting consistently with our core purpose and values,  Uncompromising care for the animals,  Commitment to the authentic principles of the no-kill philosophy, and  Leadership in the Richmond community and the humane community. </p><p>These shared values will be demonstrated by the following commitments:  At all times and in every way, we will be advocates for animals.  We will provide for their safety and comfort, strive to alleviate their suffering and work to place them in homes that will provide a responsible lifetime commitment to them.  We will discourage all forms of animal cruelty and promote spaying and neutering to achieve and retain a no-kill community.  We will endorse a philosophy of animal welfare that discourages the taking of the lives of healthy and treatable animals to control their numbers.  We will provide services that promote responsible pet ownership and humane attitudes toward all life. </p><p>Overview of Dog Jog and 5K Run The date of the 15th Annual Dog Jog and 5K Run is Saturday, March 25, 2017. Events run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and take place at the Richmond SPCA’s Robins-Starr Humane Center, located at 2519 Hermitage Road in Richmond, Virginia. The day’s festivities kick off with a competitive 5K run at 9:30 a.m. and a pet-friendly Dog Jog follows at 11 a.m. An awards ceremony, vendor fair and kids and pet activities are also featured. Additional information and online registration can be found here: www.richmondspca.org/dogjog Each year, more than 3,000 devoted animal lovers attend. Through participant-led fundraising, corporate sponsorships, event registration and raffle ticket sales, our Dog Jog and 5K Run raised more than $150,000 to benefit homeless pets last year. Dog Jog Committee Mission, Leadership and Membership Guidelines Committee Mission The purpose of the Richmond SPCA Dog Jog and 5K Run Committee is to provide fundraising and planning support for this important annual fundraiser. Key focus areas include corporate sponsorships and donations, team recruitment and retention, raffle ticket sales and food and entertainment activities. The committee will meet monthly from September to March, and more frequently as needed for specific projects or focus areas. Members should demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to the mission and goals of the Richmond SPCA, and be able to commit to the membership guidelines and attending committee meetings and the Dog Jog and 5K Run.</p><p>Committee Leadership Lou Anne Nabhan, Chair Gray Miller, Manager Community Development Richmond SPCA Board Member (Richmond SPCA Staff Liaison) T: (804) 359-2986 Richmond SPCA [email protected] 2519 Hermitage Road Richmond, VA 23220 T: (804) 521-1320 F: (804) 521-0540 [email protected] </p><p>Committee Membership guidelines / goals are as follows:  Attend monthly committee meetings on one Tuesday each month from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., December through March  Secure cash sponsorships and prizes for the event  Volunteer at the Dog Jog and 5K Run or the week leading up to it  Promote the Dog Jog and 5K Run to friends, family, coworkers and the community  Sell $100 worth of raffle tickets</p><p>Time Commitment  Approximately 3-5 hours per month (this includes the committee meeting each month)</p><p>Qualifications and Skills:  General knowledge of the Richmond SPCA’s mission and programs  Leadership skills  Ability to make a time commitment to the event and Committee  Enthusiasm for and commitment to the mission of the Richmond SPCA  Community involvement and/or connections  Outgoing and comfortable speaking to groups  Good organizational skills  Creative approach</p>
