Announcement will be posted when this is anticipated. </p><p>DEPARTMENT CHAIR Dr. Joyce Stechmiller, MSN, RN, FAAN Office: HPNP 3rd Floor Room: Office Hours: Phone Number:</p><p>COURSE DESCRIPTION Students engage in cross-cultural nursing/health assessments and/or interventions at the individual, family and/or community level in order to increase the cultural sensitivity of health care providers. There is consideration of the issues, philosophy, and cultural differences related to nursing practices across cultures. Students will be expected to compare health care in the United States with other nations. </p><p>Final Copy/NGR6930/Section 01D4/Reed/CON Website NGR 6930</p><p>COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the course the student will be able to: 1. Analyze the historical development of nursing care in various countries and its impact on health care delivery.</p><p>2. Analyze the literature on selected health care delivery systems.</p><p>3. Analyze the philosophical and cultural issues affecting nursing and overall health care in various cultures/countries.</p><p>4. Analyze determinants of global health inequity 5. Develop appropriate strategies of providing health services in other countries with different health systems.</p><p>COURSE SCHEDULE Course is composed of a compressed two week international study experience in Cambodia. </p><p>ATTENDANCE Students are expected to be present for all classes, other learning experiences and examinations. Students who have extraordinary circumstances preventing attendance should explain these circumstances to the course instructor prior to the scheduled class as soon as possible. Instructors will make an effort to accommodate reasonable requests. A grade penalty may be assigned for late assignments or make-up exams. Make-up exams may not be available in all courses. </p><p>ACCOMMODATIONS DUE TO DISABILITY Each semester, students are responsible for requesting a memorandum from the Disability Resource Center to notify faculty of their requested individual accommodations. Alternative activities will be arranged should planned host sites become unavailable. Credit will be given for replacement in-country learning activities. </p><p>Activity Schedule: Will be posted to Sakai prior to student leaving the US.</p><p>In-Country Evening Discussions (20 points) The trip schedule will reflect evening meetings with the course instructor to discuss/ debrief/ decompress the events of the day. Evening discussions will use the experiences in Cambodia as the basis of discussing the subjects listed in the topical outline.</p><p>Reflective Journal (20points) The trip schedule will reflect evening meetings with the course instructor to discuss/ debrief / decompress the events of the day. Students are asked to maintain a reflective journal to consider their experiences in international nursing and to critique/ analyze personal responses. There should be a minimum of 10 entries. Student will not be graded on the content or the length, but simply the timely completion and submission of the entries.</p><p>Students may choose the media of their choice. Examples include Sakai, Wordpress, Microsoft Word. Journal accessibility, beyond the instructor, is at the discretion of the students. However, students should not connect their journals to Facebook.</p><p>Reflective Journal Due Dates: Will be posted on Sakai prior to student leaving the US. </p><p>LATE WORK POLICY</p><p>Final Copy/NGR6930/Section 01D4/Reed/CON Website/050212 NGR 6930</p><p>Late work loses 25% of its value per day it is not turned in. Teams of 1-2 students will travel to Cambodia for a 2 week in-country experience.
