Carla Wegscheidl Thanks for sending me the link to your new FutureBeef site - I have been itching to see it for a while now!!

It looks great and contains an excellent amount and range of information. Here are my specific comments and some suggestions: I really like the FutureBeef logo! The photos and tabs on the pages seem to be out of place - i.e. on most pages I can't see the tabs at the top because they are over the photo and on the front page I can't read the text due to the background photo. Having the technical information is great and will be a fantastic resource for graziers (and staff). Where the technical information relates to a research paper (e.g. wambiana trial) could you have a link to the paper? Did you consider having contact details in the pages providing specific information (e.g. beside the author name, or at the bottom of page 'for help in applying this to your property or for more information contact Bernie English on ....'). Workshops section - would be good to have a schedule for upcoming workshops and include workshops from other providers (AgForward, RCS etc). I noticed that there is an events calendar on the first page however it would make it easier to be able to view this from the other pages. Publications list for Environmental Management/Grazing Land Management- can include the Grazing for Healthy Coastal Wetlands guidelines (that I recently released) and the Managing for water quality within grazing lands of the Burdekin Catchment (NQ Dry Tropics publication). Some of the publication lists are really long - could you break it up into regions/themes?

We have previously discussed the idea of putting some information in about Reef Plan. If we prepared a page with some links, would you be interested in having this on the website?

Kath Ryan http://www.futurebeef.com.au/events/?event_month=2

These are more queries than criticisms.

It took me a while to realise that I had to click "Go" when I selected a different month to see if the ARS conference 2012 was loaded in for September, maybe the text could be extra big for the technophobes?

Is there anywhere to submit events for addition?

Could there be a link to the calendar under 'workshops'?

Could the calendar be searchable (e.g. select from dropdown list for Qld/NT/WA/all, then by topic (All events, Ag Show, Workshop, Conference, etc.), maybe with a 'between these dates' selector)? Results could simply be a number of events matching the search criteria, saving users time otherwise spent waiting for each calendar page to load (often for no result). http://www.futurebeef.com.au/resources/workshops/register-your-interest/ Description of the problem: see screen capture image below Done FM 15/02/12 http://www.futurebeef.com.au/about/

Description of the problem: I can see why 'Land Types of Qld' is a news item, but why is it also a topic? Surely this belongs with resources under publications; if land types is a topic, allow space for land type information from elsewhere. http://www.futurebeef.com.au/regions/queensland/

Description of the problem: pie graphs illegible

Tim Mahoney First off congratulations to you and the team on getting the website together looks great overall.

Some comments:

1. The pie graphs for Qld under the regions tab - the text is difficult to read without clicking on the figure. It doesn't look like a size issue more the a type of font issue. The WA figure also seems to have this issue. Not sure if there's much you can do about this if you don’t have the original files.

2. Under Topics - Feedlots - feedlot design, construction & waste management - there seems to be a link missing to You-Tube.

3. Under Topics/health and disease - Vaccinations for beef cattle - Pestivirus

The comments under the table - do you have a source for these comments? While most of the information is correct - I am concerned about the statements regarding the presence of PI's in the herd. The current statement (persistently infected animals (PIs) is ‘vaccinating’ the group) implies there is only benefit from having PI's in the herd. It is now widely accepted that the presence of PI cattle in a herd can have long lasting negative effects on herd fertility and other health issues. I think this information will also conflict with what people will read on the BVDV Australia website about this virus The use of PI's to maintain herd immunity is equivalent to chicken-pox parties for kids! While widely practiced in the past it wouldn't be considered best practice these days for herd (or family) management.

It might also be worth while pointing out here that pestivirus and BVDV are the same thing.

There is also an additional vaccine available for beef cattle - Rhinogard - it is specifically registered for use in feedlot cattle at induction. It was developed by DPI and is now owned by Pfizer.

Jenny O’Sullivan I think it looks great, well done to all. As a Southerner I like the information about the regions and a breakdown of the cattle by region. Also great to see all the resource material. I enjoyed playing with the site. Be nice to get a few more videos up.

I couldn't see any link to the Grazing BMP project in Fitzroy Basin. As it is targeting beef producers wondering if it should be there? Certainly if/ when MLA give the green light for AusGraze it would be great to have a link to website and information about the self assessment tool. Bronwyn Venus Have just spent some time going through your new Future Beef website and I must say I am very impressed. I like the layout, the availability of information and the fact that it does not get bogged down in jargon without treating the reader as an idiot! Looking forward to it going 'live'!

Janine Palmer Thank you for keeping the JKs in the loop – much appreciated. The website looks great and navigation is quick and easy. Felicity – congratulations on a great job. I bet you’ll be pleased when the site is launched and operational. With Beef 2012 commitments, Jackie is working from Rockhampton at present but I’m sure she will respond as well. Thanks again for keeping us in the loop.

Richard Silcock http://www.futurebeef.com.au/topics/pastures-and-forage-crops/wire-grass-aristida-species/

In some rangelands, some wiregrasses are not considered unpalatable and unproductive, eg. A. contorta and A. jerichoensis. This article was written for southern inland Qld and it presents problems if used unaltered for the whole of northern Aust. My problem with this wording at the top of the article is that it can drive a wedge between our extension effort and producers who find some wiregrasses useful, non-threatening and essential to their operations, eg. in the mulga lands and channel country. http://www.futurebeef.com.au/topics/grazing-land-management/land-types-of-queensland/mulga/

Most of the land type names are based on geographic regions, eg. Channel Country, Southern Gulf, but two, Mulga and Mitchell Grass Downs use land type names. Hence when you click on those regions, they bring up a list that looks awkward. The mulga land types start off with Brigalow and Gidgee at the top of the list of Mulga Land types. I believe what is needed is Mulga Region Land types as the header not Mulga Land Types. Similarly for Mitchell Grass Downs.

Again, this is primarily the result of a product being produced for a particular purpose and then onsold to a site like futureBeef without any editorial fitting. The result is, as I see it, a one size fits all suit, that looks good on the right person but fits badly on others. http://www.futurebeef.com.au/topics/pastures-and-forage-crops/saltbush-a-grazing-option/

I think a link in further information needs to be given to my article on saltbush. This is currently found at http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/26_19997.htm

Roger Sneath You guys have done heaps - my initial feedback. I am due to get glasses though i find the font a bit fuzzy It might just be my computer, as it is doing some strange things, though when I open the site I have to scroll down about 2-3 screen pages of nice photos to get the the written information - it is like this every time i click on any selection Is there only one video (NLIS) available or a list? Nicole Sallur http://www.futurebeef.com.au/contact/

This page would look better with the contacts over in the middle instead of the big white space there. http://www.futurebeef.com.au/resources/tools/

This tools page would look better broken up into subject headings - rather than one big list. http://www.futurebeef.com.au/regions/queensland/

Can't read the graphs properly - writing unclear and too small (Qld cattle no's and Qld cattle enterprises by regions). http://www.futurebeef.com.au/resources/workshops/

Description of the problem: are you having a calendar of events? - so producers can see what workshops are coming up and could register for them online?

Veronica Robinson http://www.futurebeef.com.au/about/

The link to the DEEDI website actually takes you to the QPIF website - was this the intention? http://www.futurebeef.com.au/topics/grazing-land-management/land-types-of-queensland/land- types-in-grazing-land-management/

Remove the word "Science" from "Science, Agriculture, Food and Regional Services" since Science was recently removed from this group of DEEDI. http://www.futurebeef.com.au/regions/queensland/northern-queensland/

Only just a very, very minor thing - in the 1st dot point - is the "-" required when you also have the word "to"? ie. store steers and finishing 2.5- to 3.5-year-old Japanese ox. http://www.futurebeef.com.au/regions/queensland/northern-queensland/ http://www.futurebeef.com.au/regions/western-australia/

1. For consistency of capitalisation of "pastoral" throughout the page - does "pastoral" necessitate a capital P in these instances: In Pilbara: The 51 Pastoral businesses made up of 64 pastoral leases ...... In Kimberley: The 94 Pastoral leases in the Kimberley ......

2. In Kimberley: At the end of 1st para - use a hard space to keep 526 on same line as mm at the end of para (this is just a general rule for correspondence)
