<p> Camino de Santiago May Term May Term 2016 May 11 – June 2 Application Deadline: October 15, 2015</p><p>Program Description: This course is a 3-week peregrination across the original pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. The pilgrimage to Santiago was the third most popular site in Medieval European cultures (after Jerusalem and Rome). This course has three dimensions: the spirit of pilgrimage, culture and history, and peacemaking. We will explore what a pilgrimage means and our understandings and practices of spirituality/meditation/relaxation as we walk to Santiago. We will be learning about the cultures of northern Spain, from both contemporary and historical perspectives. A pilgrimage is an invitation to interior transformation and thus to greater inner peace. As we engage in walking meditation, we will consider the relationship between interior peace and international peace and peacemaking. Of course, we will encounter people from all over the world as we walk the Camino.</p><p>Course: OFFC 399, 3 credit hours.</p><p>Location: From the city of Burgos to the city of Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain (~300 miles). </p><p>Faculty: Andy Moore, professor of Geology. This will be the 1st time Andy has led the Camino May Term. He has also led May Terms to Yellowstone and Japan and the SICE semester program. </p><p>Living Arrangements: Students will be housed in pilgrim hostels (albergues) during the walk. In Burgos students will stay in hotels.</p><p>Eligibility: No Spanish is required for the May Term. Students must be able to walk an average of 15 miles each day during the pilgrimage. </p><p>Orientation: Students will participate in a 7-week orientation and walking training (AWPE credit available). Orientation will prepare students culturally and physically for the Camino experience.</p><p>Costs: The course fee for this May Term is $3,600.00. Students are responsible for roundtrip transportation costs to and from Madrid, Spain. Tickets start at $860.00, depending on the point of origin. Students are also responsible for additional expenses such as passport (required), personal items, additional travel, books, gifts, etc. Students will be charged a non-refundable enrollment fee of $385.00. Additional tuition fees will be charged if applicable. Students may apply for a May Term scholarship which is found at http:www.earlham.edu/academics/off-campus-study/. These applications are due October 1, 2015. The Jose Royo Scholarship is specifically for travel to Spain.</p><p>Application: Applications are due October 15 and are available in IPO in LBC #131 and online at http://earlham.edu/academics/off-campus-study/may-term-application-procedures/ . Students must apply through IPO to participate on this May Term.
