<p>Dear Honor Band Parent:</p><p>Dr. Fain and I are excited about the upcoming school year. We wanted to touch base with you before school officially starts and we all get really busy. We will not be playing our instruments until Tuesday, August 25th. We will be getting organized on the first day of school, so the students do not have to bring their instrument on Monday, August 24th. </p><p>On Tuesday, August 25th from 5-7 pm, the Music and Arts Store will be here in our LDMS band room to sell the required books and necessary supplies for our 7th and 8th grade band students. </p><p>Honor Band students need to purchase the following books:</p><p> Foundations for Superior Performance by Richard Williams and Jeff King</p><p> Essential Elements 2000, Book 2 </p><p> (PERCUSSION ONLY)—Simple Steps to Successful Beginning Percussion by Kennan Wylie (the same book used in beginner percussion class)</p><p>All students need a 1” three ring binder with 50 sheet protectors and a pencil for class every day. They may use the same binder as last year if it is still in good shape.</p><p>On Tuesday, August 25th from 5-7 pm, I will be available to take checks for the $100 band dues and $100 school-owned instrument fees for those who play a school-owned instrument such as horn, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, tuba, or euphonium. Percussionists will be charged a $50 percussion fee. This fee covers replacement of heads, sticks, and mallets of the large school- owned percussion equipment. </p><p>We will use the same band t-shirt this year. Please be sure that last year’s shirt still fits before you decide not to order one. It is actually doubtful that your child’s t-shirt will fit again this year. Almost always, students need a different size every year in middle school. We only order shirts once a year. They are $10. We need the t-shirt form and money by September 2nd. I have to get the shirts ordered in time for performances. The t-shirt order form is available on our website at www.LDMSBand.org under “forms.” We will have copies of that form on the first day of school as well. </p><p>We are looking forward to a wonderful year.
