<p> February Scholarship List 2011</p><p>1. The Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation has a number of scholarships available to Underwood Seniors. Go to http://www.swiowaeducationalfoundation.org to see the complete list and qualifications for each scholarship. You can start applying March 1, 2011 and the deadline is March 31, 2011. Some of the scholarships available are: Jacob Grote Memorial, Misty Dawn Tamayo Memorial, Underwood Optimist Club—3 of them, Alan V. Christensen Memorial, Nick Benzing Memorial, Jack Hyler, Memorial, Barbara Wilson Memorial, Iowa West Foundation, Dorothy Horn Memorial, SWI Educational Foundation, Willson & Pechacek P.L.C., Eddie Lee Memorial, CB Area Chamber (Ag), Western Iowa Mutual, Glenwood State Bank/Frontier Savings Bank, CB Guild of the Omaha Symphony, James R & Stella Knott, CB Hy-Vee, Pott County Cattleman, Pott County Community Foundation, a UNI Scholarship, and the Pott County Bar Association. Most of these have specific criteria for their scholarship. Go to the website above to apply. See the attached sheet for details. </p><p>2. Peru State College is offering the Clements Band Scholarship ($2,000 1st place, $500 2nd place) to incoming freshman students who participate in band. The Helen Naeve Douglas Music Scholarship is $500 for a freshman majoring in music education. The deadline is Friday, March 11, 2011. See Mr. Hughes for details.</p><p>3. The Iowa HS Music Association is offering 2 scholarships; The Winter Dance Party Scholarship ($500) and the Leo H. Grether Memorial Scholarship ($1,000). The first is for students majoring in music and the second is for student majoring in choral music education. Deadline for both is April 15, 2011. See Mr. Hughes for applications.</p><p>4. Khol’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program is offering scholarships to students ages 6-18 who have contributed to their community in a meaningful way through community service. There are over 200 $1,000 winners and 10 $9,000 winners. Store winners receive a $50 gift card. Go to www.kohlskids.com for details. You must be nominated by someone over the age of 21. Deadline is March 15, 2011.</p><p>5. The Iowa Section PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) is offering the Charlie Burkart Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for 4 years. Winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, and on their academic ability and financial need. Deadline is Jun 17, 2011. See Mr. Hughes for an application.</p><p>6. Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is offering 100 scholarships for up to $25,000/Year and 1,000 scholarships at $2,000/Year (both renewable for up to 4 years). Must plan on majoring in one of the following areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or Design. Must have succeeded in both inside and outside of the classroom. Go to www.buickachievers.com for more information and to apply. Deadline is March 31, 2011.</p><p>7. The Farm Service Cooperative is offering the Bill Rodenborn FS Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $300 to $500. There will be 2 or 3 given. Must be the child of an employee of FSC or the child of a stockholding member. Must plan on attending a 2 or 4 year school. See Mr. Hughes for an application. Deadline is April 15, 2011.</p><p>8. The Matthew Shepard Scholarships are being offered to Seniors with GPA of 3.000 or better, ACT or 22 or better, openly Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender, demonstrable LGBT activism and community service, and high moral and ethical standards and conduct. Black Hills Energy is offering 6 scholarships of $500 each to Iowa students who meet the following requirements: parent or guardian is a current Black Hills Energy natural gas customer, rank in the top 25% of class or ACT of 21 or higher, and not related to employee of BHE. There are specific colleges and universities that this scholarship can be used at. Go to www.blakchillsenergy.com/scholarships to apply. Deadline is March 25, 2011.</p><p>10. Dollars For Scholars have the Community Volunteer Service Award. These are $500 scholarships for seniors who have demonstrated a measurable amount of community service over the past 4 years. Must apply through our local Dollars For Scholars group. See Mr. Hughes for an application. Deadline is March 11, 2011. As of Feb. 24th only 1 application had been turned in for the entire state!</p><p>11. The Case IH Dealer in Avoca is offering a $500 scholarship to a senior planning on pursuing a career in agriculture. Applicants should submit a letter of application indicating class rank, GPA, community service, the college or university they plan to attend, and any other pertinent information. The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students.</p><p>To be eligible the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that they will find on our site at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted. Amount of award: $500 Deadline for entry: October 7, 2011.</p><p>13. Great Clips is offering 3 $300 scholarships for individuals interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology or barbering. See Mr. Hughes for an application. Deadline is June 1,2011.</p><p>14. The Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa will award 3 scholarships of $1,000 to assist students with disabilities in pursuing a degree at a vocational school or a 2 or 4 year college or university. See Mr. Hughes for applications. Deadline is March 31, 2011.</p><p>15. The Underwood Education Association is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500 to a student majoring in education. You may attend a 2 or 4 year college or university. Applicants need to submit class rank and GPA as well as a one-page letter explaining his or her educational and career goals and a brief explanation of how this scholarship would benefit them. See Mr. Hughes for an application. Deadline is March 21, 2011.</p><p>16. Iowa State University at Delta Tau Delta fraternity is offering Lives of Excellence Scholarship. It awards two $1,500 scholarships to the most outstanding applicants. Must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Deadline is July 1, 2011. See Mr. Hughes for an application.</p><p>17.</p>
