Your daily lives provide an ever-present laboratory for the study of Sociology.”- Partin & Lovett</p><p>Student Purpose: You will develop a higher degree of understanding in dealing with human Relationships and you will begin to discover your mission in this world. Course Description: Sociology is the scientific study of human society and how social forces affect Social behavior. Sociology will acquaint you with your role in society. Basically, what we are talking about here is how you affect your world and how the world affects you! Content: Social…Origins, Research, Culture, Roles, Groups, Personality & Socialization, Deviance, & Stratification Grading Scale: A: 90-100 B: 80-89 C: 74-79 D: 70-73 F: 69-0 Grading System: Vocabulary 15% Classwork/Quizzes/Projects 25% Chapter Tests 25% UNIT Tests 25% Final Exam 10% 100% Vocabulary The Vocabulary Analysis consists of you defining the vocabulary and providing examples from your life experiences. Not doing one vocab can drastically impact your grade. Portfolio Portfolio work will include all text assignments, classwork/handouts, video film assignments, writing prompts, minute writings, and any other in-class assignments & the analysis portion of your vocabulary. This will be neatly organized & collected after each unit. DON’T EVER THROW OUT WORK!!! Projects You will receive 5 major projects this semester. Take these seriously. They can help to Balance out grades if you are not a great test-taker! They spark creativity & motivation! Chapter Tests Chapter tests will be given to break down each major unit. They will be based chapter readings, on notes, voc- abulary, and classwork/video analysis. Don’t miss class or your test scores will reflect your absences. Don’t miss tests. UNIT Tests There will be 2-3 major unit tests that will be given after each unit & will be comprised of questions From your chapter tests. Test Corrections will be given following each unit test---not chapter tests. You can earn ½ of missed points back. Final Exam The final exam is comprehensive exam covering the entire semester’s worth of material.</p><p>Materials: l. YOU 2. Sociology Folder and Notebook 3. Writing Utensil (not markers)</p><p>Expectatations: 1. YOUR ATTENDANCE IS VITAL TO YOUR SUCCESS IN THIS CLASS!! This is a discussion/activity based course & your voice & those of your classmates is very important to me & the material we cover in this class. Your opinion counts. If you are not here, your voice can not be heard. You must have an excused absence to make up work. 2. MATURITY! Sociology covers material that is of a sensitive nature. It is paramount that you maintain a mature attitude. Also remember, loyalty to confidences. 3. TARDIES- Be punctual. If you are late- you have lunch detention with me and you will get an “N” in conduct. See tardy policy in NCHS handbook for additional punishment---formal negative sanctions. 4. LEAVING CLASS- Make sure that you do not abuse this right. I do not give a specific amount per semester, but if you consistently are asking to leave, you may lose this privilege. No going to the vending machines during class time! 5. MAKE-UP- If you are absent, you are responsible for gathering all missed material. If you are absent the day a project or advanced assignment is due, you will be expected to turn in the day you return. If you are absent the day of a test, you are expected to turn your portfolio in the following day & make up test before next test. All work is due upon the day your return from suspension. All late work is an automatic 50% off.</p>
