<p>7th Grade Language Arts – PalmPilot Lesson Plan Created by Lisa Haley and Steven Brown</p><p>Unit I: Out Here On My Own – “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi”</p><p>Materials: Book, PalmPilot, Whiteboard, Overhead, Computer, Television</p><p>Standards: 1.8, 1.10, 1.11, 2.2, 2.7, 2.8, 2.21, 2.22, 2.23, 3.1-5, 3.8, 3.10, 3.13, 3.14, 3.16, 3.17, 4.5, 4.9</p><p>Objectives: Students will: 1. Learn and use new vocabulary words. 2. Analyze characteristics of opposing characters. 3. Identify conflict in story. 4. Identify and correctly use specific verbs. 4. Correctly spell all ten vocabulary words.</p><p>Activities: 1. Introduce new vocabulary using PalmPilot: Teacher will beam word list to students’ PalmPilots “Spellit” program along with clues. 2. Read story using Audio CD on computer. 3. Stop and discuss at key points using KWL chart. 4. Fill out story map (characters, main events, conflict, resolution) using PicoMap on PalmPilot. 5. Students re-tell story to buddy using only the story map that they have created. 6. Students define a verb, determine difference between verbs and action verbs, and act out verbs. 7. Using Silly Sentences and a list of the different parts of speech, students will create original sentences from words used in the story. 8. Students will beam completed sentences to teacher and buddy in order to Think-Pair-Share. 9. Students will journal on what they learned and how PalmPilot has increased their knowledge of the story and verbs.</p>
