<p> Carol Spohn Watercolor, Let the Water do the Work June 17-22, 2012 www.carolspohn.com Supply List Standard Painting Supplies: Two water containers; spray bottle with a fine mist (old hair spray bottles/eyeglass cleaner bottles work well); paper towels or old towel; cotton rag; pop-up tissues; wood board/gator board to support your painting; kneaded eraser; white eraser; metal pallet knife; cut up credit card; soap; scissors; salt; 2” wide (or so) cheap masking tape; YES Paste; Incredible White Masking Fluid; pencil;100% cotton gauze; light box to transfer pattern (or you can borrow mine,) or waxless graphite paper to transfer pattern; and Arches 140 cold press paper, at least 2 full sheets. If you can not travel with full sheets, contact me before the class and I can let you know the sizes for the paintings so you can tear your paper ahead of time.</p><p>Brushes: 1 1/2" flat; #14 round; #8 round; # 6 rigger/liner; 1/2” flat brush; a cheap Oriental brush (a natural hair round brush); an older flat brush to apply paste; a # 8 (or so) white nylon round brush to apply masking fluid; a 2 1/2” or 3” Hake brush to apply water to paper; and a small and a large scrubby brush, usually shaped like a filbert but stiffer, a size #2 and a #6. </p><p>Batik supplies: a black permanent marker like an ultra fine Sharpie or .02 Pigma Micron or IDenti Pen-extra fine. Also bring about 30 sheets of old newspapers (not the shinny ads) to use to iron out the wax for the batik. I will have rice paper available for purchase for the batik painting. If you are flying let me know and I can bring newspapers for you.</p><p>Pallet: I use mainly transparent, non staining colors. I try to use the cheapest paints I can to achieve the look I liked. You do not have to purchase the exact brands that I use. Use your own pallet. These are the colors I usually use: Rembrandt Brand paints: Azo Yellow Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultra Marine Blue, Quinacridone Rose, American Journey/ Cheap Joes’ Brand: Cobalt Blue, Midnight Blue (Indanthrene Blue) Windsor Newton paint: Antwerp Daniel Smith paint: Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone Burnt Orange, Quinacridone Coral, Quinacridone Red, Quinacridone Magenta </p><p>Miscellaneous: Misc. rubber stamps for backgrounds (I will have some to share) decorative paper napkins to use in collage and bring extra for a napkin exchange with the other students.</p><p>Don’t Panic: I plan to have brushes, boards and other supplies for sale, especially the supplies that are really necessary for the projects. If you have any questions about what to bring, please contact me. </p><p>*I recognize that as a beginning painter, or a student trying a different painting medium that it can be overwhelming to shop for, and decide on the supplies needed for class.
