We Have Tested the Interface Access in Our Network. Several Technicians Were Involved

Learn 360 Testing

We have tested the interface access in our network. Several technicians were involved in the test.

The tests worked perfectly. There is no delay even if our bandwidth is heavily taxed. This is due to the Learn360 interface being on the Orion network – using a different internet pipe. With the test complete, we have demonstrated it is technically feasible to move to the Learn 360 interface.

this would allow the board to receive all the new content during the contract period with the Ministry.

There are items that must be recognized if we move.

1) We cannot move immediately, it would take some time to setup the new connection, the startup web site, the authentication and integrate all content.

2) The use and performance of the Learn 360 interface is completely dependent on internet connectivity. If the Internet pipe were to “go down” – be non-functional – all schools would lose access to all content that is in the Learn360 interface – including non- Learn360 content.

3) If we were to discontinue the Orion contract, this would have a negative impact on the Learn360 streaming Feature. Although we have another internet connection, this second connection is usually running at 100% + utilization.

4) The current contract with Learn 360 on a pro-rated basis costs the Peel District School Board $20,000 per year over the 10 year contract.

5) Moving to the Ministry contract will allow us to cancel the original contract and the new yearly cost will be about $6,000

6) There will be a learning curve in moving to a new streaming interface for staff.

If we are going to move in the direction of the new interface, I would suggest we implement the interface in a parallel fashion. Meaning, the Vbrick interface would be live as we start to put the Learn360 interface live. We would only pull the plug a) when there was a level of comfort with the new interface OR b) when we are mandated from Learn360 from a contract standpoint, as most of the content on the Vbrick interface is from our original contract with Learn360.
