<p> Statement of Reasons</p><p>Severn Beach Area Review of Waiting Restrictions</p><p>Background</p><p>Representations have been received from local residents, the Parish Council and local Councillor for the area, requesting a review of waiting restrictions within the Severn Beach area. As a result, a scheme has now been included in the Council’s 2010/11 Capital Programme to consider this request.</p><p>The majority of the waiting restrictions have been in place for many years and, over that time, new development and a change in traffic patterns in the area has meant that many of the existing waiting restrictions are now inappropriate for local conditions.</p><p>Purpose of Scheme</p><p>The purpose of the scheme is to review the existing waiting restrictions, taking into account the needs of the local residents and businesses and to look closely at removing unrealistic restrictions to allow parking in areas where it is considered safe to do so. For safety and environmental reasons, some restrictions have been retained, particularly where the road is narrow and where it has been necessary to discourage parking to provide adequate visibility at junctions. Areas of waiting restriction have also been retained or added where it is necessary to prevent vehicles obstructing vehicular access.</p><p>Proposed Scheme</p><p>Following a number of comments by local residents, the original scheme proposals have been slightly amended with revised proposals having been prepared and are now in the process of being advertised. The revised proposals include :</p><p> Reducing the lengths of waiting restrictions in certain areas of Beach Road, Station Road and Church Road.</p><p> Introducing a short length of waiting restriction at Beach Road to protect an access between nos. 101 and 103.</p><p> Amending the waiting restrictions on the west side of Beach Road in the vicinity of No. 163</p><p> Extending the waiting restrictions on the east side of Beach Road near its junction with Station Road</p><p> Removing lengths of existing waiting restrictions in Station Road and Church Road</p><p> Introducing short lengths of waiting restrictions in School Way to protect the entrance to Ableton Court Drawing Reference</p><p>Drawing number G256-03-03A shows details of this scheme.</p><p>Timescale</p><p>The proposed scheme is programmed for implementation in late 2010/early 2011, subject to advertisement of the proposals.</p>
