<p> SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS</p><p>The following is a brief summary of the new and revised paragraphs in the Standard for Outline Of Investigation For Electrical Resistance Trace Heating And Associated Controls For Use In Sprinkler And Standpipe Systems, UL 515A, which have a future Effective Date of May 30, 2016 and the action that may be required to determine compliance.</p><p>Paragraphs General Subject and Comment Section 5 IEEE 515.1-2012 – Trace heating and associated control units will need to be tested and evaluated in accordance with the requirements of IEEE 515.1-2012 applicable to sprinkler system equipment related to the following: a) Section 4.6 (Type test- sprinkler system temperature control tests) including 4.6.1 (Normal operation test) and 4.6.2 (Abnormal operation test) b) Section 5.3 (Installation instructions) c) Section 6.2.5.2 (Fire sprinkler systems) d) Section 6.2.6.3 (Monitoring) e) Section 6.2.6.4, Table 8 (Fire sprinklers) Compliance with these requirements will need to be demonstrated by the effective date for the UL Listing to continue beyond this date. Section 6 (Trace General Safety and Safety Performance Testing – Trace heating Heating Control control units will need to be tested and evaluated in accordance with the Units) following: a) Section 6.1 (General) – Compliance with either UL 508A, ANSI/UL 61010-1 or ANSI/UL 864. b) Section 6.2 (Safety Performance Tests) – Compliance with the following requirements of ANSI/UL 864: 1) Software, Section 54 2) Variable Voltage Operation Test, Section 59 3) Compatibility Tests, Section 61 4) Component Temperature Test, Section 62 5) Variable Ambient Temperature and Humidity Tests, Section 65 6) Transient Tests, Section 71 Compliance with these requirements will need to be demonstrated by the effective date for the UL Listing to continue beyond this date. Section 7 (Marking) Marking – Trace heating and associated controls shall be marked in accordance with the requirements in IEEE 515.1 that are applicable to use in sprinkler systems. See 5.1 and 5.2 of IEEE 515.1. Compliance with these requirements will need to be demonstrated by the effective date for the UL Listing to continue beyond this date. Section 8 (Installation Installation Instructions – Tracing heating cables shall be provided with Instructions) installation instructions that include information referenced in Section 5.3 of IEEE 515.1 and the information referenced in 8.2.
