Chemistry I, Honors TEST – Friday, October 11, 2007 Chapter 22 – Organic Chemistry Test Review

Topics to be covered on the test

5-6 where I give the name of a compound and they write the structure 5-6 where I give the structure (some may be actual models passed around the room) and they write the name

o Remember, you need to be able to name and draw structures for . Alkanes, expect branched alkanes . Alkenes . Alkynes . Halogenated hydrocarbons . Aromatics (contain the benzene ring) . Alcohols . Carboxylic acids . Esters

5-6 functional group recognition (some may be actual models passed around the room) o In addition to some of the functional groups mentioned above . Ethers . Aldehydes . Ketones . Amines . Amides

Formation of esters (as we did in lab) o For example . Write the equation for the reaction of ethanol with propanoic acid using structural formulas, and name the products as well.

Cis/trans isomers

Polymers o Two main types of polymer formation . Addition . Condensation o Given a polymer, identify the monomer o Given a monomer, identify a part of the polymer chain

The bulk of the test will likely be written, but there is a slight chance that some of the topics may be covered with multiple-choice items.
