<p> JOB DESCRIPTION</p><p>Assistant Headteacher </p><p>JOB PURPOSE:</p><p>• To be responsible for whole school CPD in respect of Inclusion, SEND and Communication Interaction. • To be the Designated Safeguarding Lead. • To be responsible for whole school Spiritual. Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) Development and Well-being. • To be the LAC Co-ordinator. • To lead on Inclusion throughout the School. • In conjunction with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership team, provide the vision for the future and demonstrating inspirational leadership and creativity that will enable the school to develop. • To be a member of the Schools Leadership Team, maintain a high profile as an example of best and leading practice and make a significant contribution to the strategic development and direction of the school. • To assist the Headteacher in leading, motivating and enabling staff to provide the highest standard of education for all pupils. • Develop and support the schools Enhanced School Provision for children with communication and interaction needs. • Play a key role alongside the Headteacher in the school provision for SEND, Safeguarding, Looked after Children and Communication and Interaction. • Providing assessment of data from relevant sources to make a significant contribution to school self-evaluation and school development planning and inform effective use of resources. • Contribute to the identification of key areas of strength and weakness. • To lead and line manage the inclusion team within school (Parent Support Advisor, Child Protection Worker and the Enhanced School Provision Staff), including associated performance management duties and responsibilities. • To take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school in respect of Inclusion, SEND and Communication Interaction. • To lead, develop and enhance the teaching practice of the staff especially in relation to Inclusion. • To carry out the professional duties of a classroom teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the 2016 School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document, and the Professional Standards for Teachers. • To carry out the duties of the post in line with the remit outlined in the School Teachers’ Pay & Conditions Document, including the conditions of employment for Assistant Headteachers. </p><p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: </p><p> To take a key role in, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the strategic leadership and management of the school.  To play a major role in developing the whole-school vision, values and aims, together with establishing policies and practices for them to be achieved.  To lead by example and to express continually the school vision, values, aims and priorities of the school.  To be instrumental in supporting all staff through change.  To monitor, evaluate and challenge the effectiveness of the schools SEND in terms of overall provision, including pupil achievement, attainment and teaching and learning.  To maintain and develop effective relationships with all stakeholders, including parents, governors, trustees and other bodies outside the school.  To maintain and develop effective relationships with a range of external agencies connected to pupil welfare and need.  Seek to develop and enhance a broad and rich curriculum which meets the needs of the range of specialist pupils.  To play a key role in ensuring the school complies with all relevant legislation.  To share responsibility for the day to day management of the school, taking on specific tasks directed by the Headteacher, as required.  To attend and contribute fully to leadership and management meetings as required and to report to staff and governors as necessary.  To develop and deliver CPD for Inclusion and Safeguarding  To actively participate in seeking quality CPD experiences related to SEND and Autism and to support CPD within school, through the provision of high quality professional development, such as coaching, or drawing on other sources of expertise, such as the local authority or school to school support.  To play a key role in developing the school development plan and to monitor and evaluate it against the success criteria and to use this to identify future priorities for developments.  Implement strategies to promote high standards of behaviour.  To appraise members of staff as per the trusts appraisal policy.  To undertake the professional duties of the Headteacher in the event of both the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher’s absence from school, to the extent required by the governing body. • Accountability to Head Teacher and Governing Body. • Accountable for delivering high quality teaching and learning. • Responsible for the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in accordance with the Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance. • Establish good relationships, encourage good working practices and support and lead teachers in the team. • Lead, support, motivate and direct support staff working within the team. • Oversee all aspects of the team organisation and management, including preparing agendas and chairing team meetings, in order to ensure that school policies and practices are being delivered. • Develop and implement policies and practices which reflect the school’s commitment to high achievement through effective teaching and learning. • Evaluate pupils’ progress, achievement and attainment, and report to the SLT. • Lead by example in all areas of inclusion. • Manage pupil development, by monitoring the standards of progress, achievement and behaviour, maintaining a culture of shared accountability for pupil outcomes. • Take responsibility for the pastoral care of pupils. • Liaise closely with other team leaders to ensure continuity and progression across the school; and in order to address transition. • Co-ordinate and oversee the organisation of school visits and extra-curricular activities. • Cover some lessons in the hub classrooms. • To undertake any other duty reasonably assigned by the Headteacher from time to time.</p><p>Teaching and Learning  Ensure continuity and progression in the area / aspect of teaching by supporting colleagues in choosing the appropriate sequence of teaching and teaching methods and setting clear learning objectives through an agreed scheme of work, developed in line with the school development plan and especially in relation to pupils with SEND.  Evaluate the teaching and pupil progress data.  Through work analysis and other school self-review processes, identify effective practice and areas for improvement, and take appropriate action to improve further the quality of teaching.</p><p>Leading and Managing Staff </p><p> Enable all teachers to achieve expertise in planning for and teaching in the area through example, support and by leading or providing high quality professional development opportunities.  Demonstrate an excellent ability to advise and support other teachers.  Provide clear feedback, good support and sound advice to others.  Provide examples, coaching and training to help others become more effective in their teaching.  Help others to evaluate the impact of their teaching on raising pupils’ achievement.  Contribute to the Performance Review of members of staff.  Ensure that the Headteacher, Leadership Team and Governors are well informed about policies, plans, priorities and targets for the area and that these are properly incorporated into the school development/progress plan.  Provide regular supervision and support to the Inclusion Team.</p><p>This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the head teacher and member of staff, and will be reviewed periodically.</p><p>The work of schools changes and develops continuously which in turn requires staff to adapt and adjust. The duties and responsibilities above should not therefore be regarded as immutable but may change in line with national prescription on teachers’ terms and conditions of employment and/or any relevant school improvement priorities set from time to time. Any major changes will involve discussion and consultation with you.</p><p>Whilst the main duties and responsibilities of the post are set out above, each individual task to be undertaken has not been identified.
