PIP International Conference, Department of Physics, UET Lahore From 23 – 26 Feb, 2009.

Future Academic Plans for 2011

CIIT has invested heavily in the department of Physics, both in terms of money and man power. However, during my two years stay, as an Advisor in the department, I feel that the quality of research at the graduate level program is not what is expected of a leading university. Greater efforts should be made to further invigorate research productivity in order to bring greater Visibility at national and international levels.

Having taught an undergraduate course to the electronics students last semester, I also realized that the content and level of the courses need up-grading and re- structuring. Organization and introduction of good experiments in the Teaching Laboratories is also needed. This cannot be achieved overnight but a beginning has to be made.

As an academician and having a long experience in teaching and research at graduate and undergraduate level, I feel that this is the avenue where I can contribute 4 significantly and effectively in the months to come as an Advisor in the department of Physics. I would like to see a strong undergraduate program which can thus serve as an input for our research laboratories. I have already started re-organizing the teaching labs in our BS programs. Writing good “instruction manuals” will be done. Both the courses and the teaching labs would be co-ordinated for meaningful teaching.

5
