<p> 15676 version 2 Page 1 of 3 Work with trawl nets and trawl gear under supervision</p><p>Level 3</p><p>Credits 8</p><p>Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe trawl nets and associated trawl gear; repair trawl net under supervision; and describe and demonstrate the attachment of floats and groundlines to a trawl net.</p><p>Subfield Seafood</p><p>Domain Seafood Vessel Operations</p><p>Status Registered</p><p>Status date 23 April 2007</p><p>Date version published 23 April 2007</p><p>Planned review date 31 December 2011</p><p>Entry information Open.</p><p>Accreditation Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and industry.</p><p>Standard setting body (SSB) Primary Industry Training Organisation</p><p>Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) reference 0123 This AMAP can be accessed at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/framework/search/index.do.</p><p>Special notes</p><p>Definition Trawl gear refers to the gear used from the trawl warps to the codend, and all gear and equipment in between.</p><p>Elements and performance criteria</p><p>Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 15676 version 2 Page 2 of 3</p><p>Element 1</p><p>Describe trawl nets and associated trawl gear.</p><p>Performance criteria</p><p>1.1 Parts of the net and associated trawl gear are identified using nautical terminology.</p><p>1.2 Common maintenance tasks required for trawl nets and associated trawl gear are described in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>1.3 Methods of tying up the codend and tying on the beckets are described in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>1.4 The distinguishing features of bottom and mid-water trawl nets are described.</p><p>Element 2</p><p>Repair trawl net under supervision.</p><p>Performance criteria</p><p>2.1 The twine size is selected appropriate to section of net to be repaired.</p><p>2.2 The needle is loaded according to the supervisor’s instructions.</p><p>2.3 The repair is carried out within the timeframe set by the supervisor.</p><p>2.4 The repair is carried out according to the supervisor’s instructions and company requirements.</p><p>Range includes but is not limited to – uniform mesh size, net shape, lay or run of the net, tension, knots.</p><p>Element 3</p><p>Describe and demonstrate the attachment of floats and groundlines to a trawl net.</p><p>Performance criteria</p><p>3.1 The procedures to attach a groundline to a net are described in accordance with the supervisor’s instructions.</p><p>Range two procedures. </p><p>3.2 The procedures to attach floats to a net are described in accordance with the supervisor’s instructions.</p><p>Range two procedures.</p><p>Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 15676 version 2 Page 3 of 3</p><p>3.3 The floats and groundlines are attached to the trawl net in accordance with the supervisor’s instructions.</p><p>Range evidence is required for two floats and two groundlines.</p><p>Please note</p><p>Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.</p><p>Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.</p><p>Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.</p><p>Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
