<p>Colonial Brochure Project Seventh Grade Social Studies Due Date</p><p>Goals Your job is to create an electronic brochure for one of the thirteen colonies. Your brochure should do the following:</p><p>1. Provide accurate information on the colony 2. Persuade new immigrants to settle in your colony</p><p>Brochures are designed to inform and persuade people to visit certain areas. Even though the World Wide Web and travel brochures did not exist during colonial times, many of the colonies did attract a number of people to settle in their areas. Imagine you have been hired to create an electronic brochure for a specific colony on your website.</p><p>Requirements Sections There are six sections in your brochure. The information in each section must provide an accurate picture of the colony. Your brochure must contain information on the following sections. Be sure to include information on the role and participation in society by women and ethnic/racial minorities.</p><p> History of the Colony  Geography  Government  People  Economics</p><p>The first part of your electronic must contain your colony and slogan</p><p>Pictures and Images Your brochure must contain at least five pictures or images. One of the pictures must be a map of the colony. Each of the pictures should appropriately fit into one of the various sections. The pictures must also appropriately fit the colonial timeframe. Directions Step 1: Select a Colony  Choose one of the Thirteen Colonies  Type the name of the colony you choose in your Colonial Brochure Notes (word notebook document in public folder)</p><p>Step 2: Research</p><p> Look through and search the provided resources from the ITC for information on you colony. (All next week)  All of the information that appears in your brochure MUST appear in your notes. Be sure to write any useful information in your notes. Also include the title of the source. </p><p>Guided Questions: These questions should help guide you through the research. Your brochure should address each of the questions.</p><p>History  When was your colony settled?  Who settled your colony?  Who are the significant people involved with your colony’s settlement? (ex. Charles II or James I)  Why was your colony established?  Was your colony a royal or proprietary colony?</p><p>Geography  Find a map of the colony. A colonial map must be included in this section.  Identify the region to which your colony belonged. (New England, Middle, Southern)  What physical features are in your colony? (mountains, rivers, oceans) Are there any geographic features that act as natural borders?  Identify what is to the north, south, east, and west of the colony.</p><p>Government  How was the government established?  Was an important document written and associated with your colony? (ex. Fundamental Orders of Connecticut or the Mayflower Compact)  What leadership positions were created? (ex. governor or House of Burgesses)  How were leaders chosen?  What were the important laws?  Who was allowed to participate in the colonial government?  How do different religions affect the laws of the colony?</p><p>Economy  What resources are found in your colony?  What products were made in your colony?  What products or resources were traded?  How do people earn a living? What types of occupations did people have?  What is the colony’s source of labor?</p><p>People  What groups of people settled in your colony?  When did they immigrate to your colony?  Which religions were practiced in your colony?  What were some of the common occupations, cultural practices, and traditions?  How were children educated?  What is the day-to-day life like?</p><p>Step 3: Making the Brochure Transfer the information in your notes to your brochure. Remember to be creative, but make sure you focus on the information.</p>
