Republican Leadership Council

Mullings Mull v. (1) to consider; to ponder. (2) to add spice as to wine or cider

From: Rich Galen To: Usual Suspects Re: So Many Trees, So Little Time Date: Wednesday, March 11, 1998 ______ The old "Talking Points" have been renamed "Mullings." Monica Lewinsky gave "Talking Points" a bad name. I stole the idea from Associated Press headline writers.  I am now the executive director of GOPAC. It’s James Carville’s fault. About six weeks ago he declared that “this is going to be a war.” If there was going to be a war, I wanted to be in it. If James was going to be in it, I wanted to be on the other side. Thanks to Dan Dutko for understanding.  Here’s a problem with the Clinton/Lewinsky deal: Only women in the workplace can tell Monica/Bill jokes with alacrity. Warning to men: Don’t start any Limerick with the phrase, “There was a young girl named Lewinsky.” All over America, sexual harassment lawyers are, you should pardon the expression, licking their chops.  The Republicans in Congress are getting some heat from our new-found friends in the media for maintaining a surprisingly high degree of message discipline on the Clinton scandals. There is no reason for our people to get in the way of the Vast Right Wing Conspirators we have now safely planted in the city rooms of the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and so on. Please, God, do not let there be a nationwide pressmans’ strike.  Speaking of disappearing ink, is Al Gore still a member of this administration? He has vanished as completely as copies of “Leaves of Grass” from Barnes & Noble.  Gore keeps saying “I believe the President.” It’s just that he keeps saying it from farther and farther away. He now sounds like that commercial for Swiss cough drops.  It was a pretty good day for the GOP in Tuesday’s elections. Although we lost in California 22 (am I mistaken or did Marty Frost miss the opportunity to crow about Bill Clinton’s coattails?), the strongest candidates won or led in Texas, and we made an important gain in Florida’s statehouse election. Look for a Republican takeover of – at a minimum – the Texas House of Representatives this Fall. Democrat electoral woes continue.  Jessica Lee, of USA Today, called to get a slant the Gingrich-for-President stories. A year ago the question wasn’t, “Is Newt running for President.” It was, “Can Newt survive as Speaker until the end of the week?” One short year later . . . -- END --

Paid for and authorized by GOPAC.
