Sunita is a retired Special Needs Teacher. Komilla is an Asst. Head teacher. 15.00 – 15.10 Introduction (Nikin Patel, RF Trustee and a Director at British Sky Broadcasting Ltd., BskyB) Domestics- in case of fire, toilets, etc., introduction to Rama Foundation, today’s aims & objectives and running order. 15.10 – 15.40 Ganga Prem Hospice initiative & Palliative Care in Uttarakhand (Dr Brenda Ward & Ruth Jolley) Introduction to GPH by Brenda (returned to UK after her second 4 months) & Ruth (1 month’s volunteering) and their experiences. Brenda is a consultant in Palliative Medicine. Ruth is day hospice lead at St Margaret’s Hospice, Somerset. 15.40 – 16.20 Women’s Health Initiative at Mother Miracle (Dr Caroline Cooper & Dr Priyanka Patel, RF Chair) Caroline, a Lead Associate Specialist in Sexual & Reproductive Health: SRH and Priyanka, a Consultant Grade Trainee in Community SRH, did sessions on Women’s Health with mothers of school children and other women enrolled on MM’s Women’s Empowerment Program. They share their experiences and the need for a dedicated Monthly Clinic. 16.20 – 16.30 ‘Inspiring Individuals’ film clips (Munish Datta, Trustee and first Chair of RF) 16.30 – 17.10 Improving nutritional status of children & terminally ill (Stephanie Clark & Artika Datta, Trustee) Stephanie and Artika, Specialist Dietitians share results of 4 assessment studies carried out by RF Team of Dietitians and UH Student dietitians at 3 Projects. RF is now embarking on an intervention project at MM. Artika has a particular interest in Palliative Care and is to explore how to improve nutritional status & quality of life of GPH’s cancer patients. 17.10 – 17.30 Collaborative Action in Health and Medical Student Electives with GPH (Dr John Tweedale) John is a Senior Partner / GP at Shelford Health Practice with particular interest in Palliative Care. Last October he and his wife, Caroline went out to India first time and were joined by Priyanka and Nikin in a scoping exercise that has resulted in RF entering into long term Agreements with GPH and MM, the focus of this Meeting. He shares their very personal, first hand experiences, identifying steps that could lead to meeting needs prioritised by these organisations. 17.30 – 17.40 The Humanitarian Centre, Cambridge CB2 1RR (Janice S Pederson & Emily Brocklebank) Janice supports skills and capacity-building for HC Members (like RF), by providing guidance, advice, resources and networking opportunities. She will briefly introduce all to work of Humanitarian Centre while Emily focuses on the importance of bottom-up approaches to sustainable development and shares her expertise in international volunteering. 17.40 – 17.50 Building in ‘Sustainability’ into major facilities under construction by these NGOs (Munish Datta) Recent Indian visit by Munish and his wife, Artika was very timely as GPH’s Hospice & Day Care Centre and MM’s Primary School are under construction. Munish heads the M&S sustainability programme (industry leader). He is an honorary Senior Associate of the Cambridge University Institute for Sustainability Leaders and on various task groups. He will be sharing his findings after having had discussions with senior members of GPH & MM, Project Managers, etc. 17.50 – 18.00 Conclusion (Balbir Datta: CEO and Co-founder with wife, Sunita Datta of Rama Foundation) What RF wants / needs from today’s attendees and Vote of thanks. 18.00 – 18.30 All invited to tea / coffee and light buffet snacks.
