We seek to encourage young women to pursue higher education in these fields by running free, educational workshops for students in elementary schools and high schools. The Robogals chapter at Queen’s University has been making a positive impact in the Kingston, Ontario community since 2013. In the past three years, we have helped introduce over 500 young women to robotics and engineering. Many of these students have never had the opportunity to play with electronics before, let alone LEGO robots; but after a one-hour workshop with Robogals Queen’s they become completely comfortable with programming the robots. The success of our organization and our outreach is dependent entirely upon the financial and product support of corporations and private sponsors. We would like to ask that you consider becoming one of our 2017 Corporate Sponsors. As a sponsor, you will receive positive media attention from your associate with Robogals Queen’s, advertising opportunities for your company on Robogals Queen’s promotional materials and workshop equipment, as well as a number of levels of involvement at networking events. With the funding received, we plan to expand our inventory of workshop tools including robotic equipment, cover operational costs, generate further awareness of Robogals’ mission, and host networking events. Below you will find more information about Robogals Queen’s and a sponsorship fact sheet. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of Robogals Queen’s, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thank you in advance for taking the time to review our sponsorship package. Sincerely, Dominique Flabbi President [email protected] Emma Kahansky Sponsorship Coordinator [email protected] 2 Queen’s About Robogals Founded in 2008 at Melbourne University, Australia, Robogals is a student-run global organization with the mission of “Inspire, engage and empower young women into engineering and related fields”. Only about 10-15% of the engineering labour force worldwide are women, and this lack of representation makes the case for Robogals clear. To increase female participation in engineering fields, Robogals seeks to reduce the stigma that science, technology and math are ‘for boys’. By hosting workshops for girls aged 6-17, we can correct these misconceptions at an early age. Robogals allows girls to discover their own capabilities and interests through robotics and other engineering activities. Today, Robogals is present and growing in the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, Canada and more. There are currently 27 university chapters and counting! Robogals Global organizes an annual Seminar Inducting New Executives (SINE) for each region to introduce new chapter executives to the organization, as well as share and innovate chapter practices. The next North American SINE will be held in January 2017. For more information, please visit http://www.robogals.org/ About Robogals Queen’s Chapter Founded in January 2014, Robogals Queen’s Chapter is a young club at Queen’s University ratified under the Alma Mater Society and the Engineering Society. Last year, Robogals Queen’s Chapter was awarded the “Up” award at the 2016 North American SINE Conference for expanding their initiatives and inspiring over 500 girls in the Kingston community. In collaboration with the Limestone District School Board, a number of private schools, as well as local outreach groups including Girls Inc. and the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston, Robogals Queen’s delivers robotics and engineering workshops where young girls learn about mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, but above all, their passion and capabilities in these fields. These workshops are run at no cost to the participants. Robogals Queen’s chapter is composed of a eight-membered executive team. Currently, the chapter has over 60 volunteers and has taught over 500 girls. In the coming year, we plan to develop an advanced robotics program for high school students, extend our reach to less accessible, high-need areas around Kingston, as well as collect geographical statistics to track our impact. 3 Queen’s Your Contribution There are many ways you can contribute to Robogals’ mission for equal representation in the industry! The sponsorship agreement can be customized to bring the most effective returns to your organization. The following are example sponsorship opportunities. Sponsor a Workshop Our workshops teach robotics and engineering lessons to elementary and high school students. Students then solve challenges using the acquired skills. Workshops create excellent exposure opportunities to parents, teachers, and school boards for your company. One of the highest costs associated with workshops is transportation. Robogals Queen’s covers transportation costs for all volunteers who come to events. Sponsor Equipment Example of the equipment required to run a Robogals workshop are LEGO robotic kits, laptops, computer mice, design challenge materials (paper, straws, pipe cleaners etc.), and containers for equipment. Equipment sponsorship will allow your logo to be displayed to student participants. Most equipment will also be seen by parents and teachers. Sponsor a Networking Event Robogals Queen’s Chapter frequently collaborates with Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) at Queen’s University for high school conferences and Science Days for younger students. Robogals North America hosts an annual conference for all chapters in Canada and the United States to meet, discuss ongoing progress, brainstorm and share innovation, as well as meet with industry professionals.
