<p> Alphabet Soup: Commonly Used Acronyms</p><p>APHL – Association of Public Health Laboratories</p><p>APEX –PH - The Assessment Protocol for Excellence in Public Health</p><p>APHA –American Public Health Association</p><p>ASTHO (as-tō) – the Association of State and Territorial Health</p><p>Officials</p><p>CDC – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention </p><p>CHA – Community Health Assessment</p><p>C/SHIP – Community/ State Health Implementation Plan</p><p>ES/EPHS – Essential Services/Essential Public Health Services</p><p>LHD/SHD - local health department/state health department ("a" for agency is sometimes used instead of “d” for department</p><p>LPHSA – Local Public Health System Assessment. One of four assessments in the MAPP process (see below). The NPHPSP local instrument is used to conduct the LPHSA.</p><p>MAPP (map) – Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships.
