<p>August 2016 </p><p>Dear Parents and Student,</p><p>Welcome to Second Grade at Sully Elementary! I hope you had a fun summer and you are ready for an exciting school year. Together, we will explore many new things and work together to help you do your best in Second Grade!</p><p>We are going to learn about many interesting topics this year. We’ll spend time in science using scientific investigation in experiments and learning about cycles including the water cycle and life cycles. In social science, we’ll discover ancient cultures like China and Egypt. We will use map skills to find out more about our country and the world. In math, we will be telling time, counting money, and learning about shapes and fractions. You will read quite a bit, participating in group and shared reading, as well as reading by yourself. </p><p>Our Back to School day is Friday, August 26th from 1:00-3:00 pm. You can bring your supplies and get set up for your first day in Second Grade. I hope to see you there!</p><p>If you can’t make it to “Back to School,” I look forward to meeting you on the first day of school, Monday, August 29th. Please be sure to bring all of your school supplies. Espero que hayan tenido un verano divertido y que estén listos para un emocionante año escolar. Juntos, vamos a explorar muchas cosas nuevas y vamos a trabajar en conjunto para ayudarle a tener un exitóso segundo grado!</p><p>Vamos a aprender acerca de muchos temas interesantes este año. Vamos a pasar tiempo en ciencias mediante la investigación científica con los experimentos y vamos aprender acerca de los ciclos, incluyendo el ciclo del agua y los ciclos de vida. En ciencias sociales, vamos a descubrir las culturas antiguas como la de China y Egipto. Vamos a utilizar las habilidades del mapa para saber más acerca de nuestro país y del mundo entero. En matemáticas, vamos a decir la hora, contar dinero, y aprender acerca de las formas y fracciones. Vamos a leer bastante durante todo el año tanto en grupo y con la lectura compartida, así como leyendo independientemente.</p><p>Nuestro día de regreso a la escuela (Back to school night) es el Viernes, 26 de Agosto de 1:00-3:00 de la tarde. Usted puede traer sus utiles escolares y ponerse en marcha para su primer día en Segundo Grado. Espero verlos allí.</p><p>Si usted no puede asistir a "Back to School", espero contar con su presencia en el primer día de clases, Lunes, 29 de Agosto.
